WOMEN'S  WORLD CUP NORWAY 0-3 ENGLAND BRONZE BRIGHTNESS   EVERYONE  DAY   Lucy Bronze gallops down the right flank and cuts inside before pulling the ball back from the byline. Ellen White swings a leg to convert but hits a fresh-air shot. The ball rolls to Jill Scott, who scuffs it home off the upright. Down the right flank, Lucy Bronze plays the ball inside to Nikita Parris, who pings it goalwards around a defender and into the path of White. She sweeps the ball home from a couple of yards out. Lucy Bronze rifles a surface-to-air screamer into the roof of the net from about 25 metres out after being left unmarked once  again  at a set-piece. From the dead ball situation, Beth Mead pulled the ball her way and Bronze unleashed a fantastic shot. https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2019/jun/27/norway-v-england-womens-world-cup-quarter-final-live?page=with:block-5d15147a8f080e8285150eb4#liveblog-navigation MY OPINION This definitel...

WOMENS WORLD CUP LAST 16 NETERLANDS 2-1 JAPAN KUMAGAI KILLS The corner from the left drops at the feet of Martens, on the six-yard line. She back-flicks towards the goal. The ball breaks off Sugasawa, desperately spreading herself to block, and squeaks into the bottom right. Yamashita had no chance of changing direction. This is a sensational goal! Sugita sashays in from the left. She lays off to Sugasawa, on the edge of the box, her back to goal. Sugasawa immediately cushions a pass for Iwabuchi, who shrugs off Groenen, draws Van der Gragt, then dinks a cheeky pass forward to Hasegawa, suddenly inside the area in acres of freshly created space! Hasegawa gently wedges the ball over Van Veenendaal and into the top right! As calm as you like. A stunning finish, a stunning team goal. Beerensteyn dribbles in from the right. She causes much panic. The ball ends up at the feet of Miedema, who smashes a first-time shot goalwards. It hits Kumagai’s right arm, which is hung out by ...

WOMENS WORLD CUP SWEDEN 1-0 CANADA BLAKSTENIUS GENIUS A slow-burner finally came to life in the second half, with Kosovare Asllani at the heart of it. Asllani raced downfield and played an inch-perfect pass for Blackstenius to score – with the game’s first shot on target just shy of the hour mark. But it was also Asllani who was penalised for handball eight minutes later, before Lindahl denied Janine Beckie from the spot. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/24/sweden-canada-womens-world-cup-match-report MY OPINION A very tight game that could have want both ways and Sweden have got to learn lessons from this match or they will go in the next round they did not deserve to win this in the 90 and that is how I understand it VAR changed things again SPAIN 1-2 USA RAPOINE RUNS HIS LUCK Ball played directly from defender Dahlkemper to the ever-dangerous Heath, who cuts the ball back. Mapi Leon left her leg in, tripping Heath, and Rapinoe goes to the spot. S...

24-6-19 womens world cup last 16

FIFA WORLD CUP LAST 16 GERMANY 3-0 NIJERIA POPP IT OFF Popp's opener from Magull's corner appeared good until VAR alerted Yamashita to a possible issue over Huth's offside position in front of keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. After a check, the referee allowed the goal to stand. Moments after the restart, Magull hit the deck when Nwabuoku unintentionally caught her in an attempt to clear the ball. Yamashita signalled a throw-in but once more received a message from the VAR team. It was three minutes before Yamashita changed her decision to a spot-kick, which Dabritz put away to give the Germans a 2-0 lead. Instead, SGS Essen forward Schuller put the game beyond the reach of the Super Falcons with an angled strike that nestled in Nnadozie's right-hand corner. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48723128 MY OPINION Germany have to be seen now as one of the favourites for the whole thing as this was a bit of a breeze but you do wonder when they play a side a...

gaa football qualifiers 24-6-19

GAA FOOTBALL QUALIFERS DERRY 0-12 1-13 LAIOS LOVELY LOWRY The visitors started with Donie Kingston occupying the centre half-forward role but it was the home side who looked more impressively in the early exchanges. Deploying Shane McGuigan and Benny Heron as a two-man full-forward line, Derry were two points up inside three minutes thanks to scores from Ryan Bell and McGuigan from a free.  Laois were settling though and in full-forward Colm Murphy, they had a man causing Derry all sorts of problems. Murphy opened the Laois account in the fifth minute before Evan O'Carroll somehow missed his shot when the ensuing Derry kick-out went straight to him seconds later. He made amends though inside three minutes with a ninth minute equaliser and the dye was cast for a half in which there would be nothing between the teams. McGuigan somehow miscued an easy 20m free into Laois keepers hand before a flowing Derry moved ended with McGuigan teeing up Heron to edge Derry back i...

21-6-19 womens soccer world cup

GROUP E CAMEROON 2-1 NEW ZEELAND NCHOUT NICKS IT It was a rather uneventful game up until the 57th minute when Nchout brought the game to life by turning inside of two New Zealand defenders and keeping her cool with a smart finish. Cameroon were the better side thereafter but the game suddenly turned when Awona inadvertently converted into her own net, at which point both were staring at a heartbreaking exit. Olivia Chance screwed wide from inside the box on 87 minutes before the excellent Nchout made space in the box and slotted in with the last kick of the game deep in injury time https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48711721 MY OPINION Cameroon saved themselves in this match and did not deserve the win that put them through they were by lucky but now need to know how to ride that luck when it comes to knockout stages as for New Zeeland they have to be annoyed but with what NETHERLANDS 2-1 CANADA BEAUTIFUL BEERENTSEYN Anouk Dekker gave the Dutch the lead when...
