GERMANY 3-0 NIJERIA
POPP IT OFF
Popp's opener from Magull's corner appeared good until VAR
alerted Yamashita to a possible issue over Huth's offside position in front of
keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. After a check, the referee allowed the goal to stand.
Moments after the restart, Magull hit the deck when Nwabuoku
unintentionally caught her in an attempt to clear the ball. Yamashita signalled
a throw-in but once more received a message from the VAR team.
It was three minutes before Yamashita changed her decision
to a spot-kick, which Dabritz put away to give the Germans a 2-0 lead.
Instead, SGS Essen forward Schuller put the game beyond the
reach of the Super Falcons with an angled strike that nestled in Nnadozie's
right-hand corner.
MY
OPINION
Germany have to be seen now as
one of the favourites for the whole thing as this was a bit of a breeze but you
do wonder when they play a side at their level what can they do. You can’t say
anything from this from the African perspective as they are nowhere near the
level of the Germans
NORWAY 1-1 AUSTRILIA Norway win 4-1 on pens
HERLOVEN HAPPY
Norway's breakthrough goal came in the 31st minute when
Isabell Hersloven dispatched Karina Saevik's pass
Australia, whose own superstar Sam Kerr is also interesting
Barcelona as she prepares to leave Chicago Red Stars, equalised in the 83rd
minute when Elise Kellond-Knight's corner flew all the way into Norway's net
MY
OPINION
I think Norway were lucky to get
past this test and that was how it felt especially with the sending off that
they had but the way it did not affect Australia’s motives. This changed the
mental state of the team and what their ambition was
ENGLAND 3-0 CAMEROON
WHERES WHITE
Captain Houghton struck England's opener after an early
backpass gave England an indirect free-kick, before the drama escalated.
Striker White placed in England's second, which was
initially ruled out before the video assistant referee deemed White to have
been onside, but Cameroon reacted furiously and gestured to suggest the big
screen's replays had indicated differently.
The African side thought they had pulled a goal back after
the break through Nchout, but their despair increased when it was disallowed
after a VAR review for an extremely tight offside call.
England left-back Greenwood then swept in the Lionesses'
third to secure a win that saw them reach at least the last eight
MY
OPINION
This was quite an easy win for
England which shows me they are ready for any team orb anything the opposition
throws at them. The side are definitely improving but the big question is are
they ready for the big nations
FRANCE 2-1 BRAZIL
HENRY HAILED
Gauvin collided with keeper Barbara while challenging for
Diani's cross, the ball ending up in the net.
Brazil's response was swift. Cristiane had a header tipped
on to the bar before Thaisa equalised but only after another lengthy VAR check.
In a thrilling conclusion, Griedge Mbock Bathy cleared
Debinha's effort off the line before Henry
MY
OPINION
It is a little bit unfair that
Marta will not be able to break the record held by both men and women as her
career is coming towards an end and the Maradona 94 factor could come into play
for her where she decides simply never to retire.
