29-4-19 premiere league

FAPREMIERE LEAGUE LIVERPOOL 5-0 HUDDERSFIELD MAGIC MANE AND SUPER SALAH Winning possession high in Huddersfield territory,Keta swept a close-range effort into the bottom left corner from Mohamed Salah's pass to record the Reds' quickest goal in a Premier League match. It was also Liverpool's 100th goal in all competitions this term, and they doubled their lead when Sadio Mane glanced Andrew Robertson's superb cross into the bottom right corner. Salah then lobbed Town goalkeeper Jonas Lossl on the stroke of half-time to deliver a third after running on to Trent Alexander-Arnold's ball forward. Mane headed in his second from Jordan Henderson's cross to briefly become the Premier League's joint-top scorer, on 20 goals. However his Egyptian team-mate Salah regained that honour, converting from another Robertson delivery in the closing stages https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47985659 MY OPINION This shows the quality that Liverpool hav...

29-4-19 PRO 14 FINAL DAY

PRO 14 FINAL DAY DRAGONS 34-32 SCARLETS STYLISH SCREECH Josh Lewis opened the scoring with two penalties before Wales wing Hallam Amos, playing in his last Dragons game before joining Cardiff Blues next season, was yellow-carded for a deliberate knock-on. Scarlets took advantage of their numerical advantage with two tries and 12 points while Amos was off the field. Wing Nicholas first crossed despite a huge tackle from Ross Moriarty on Josh Macleod in the build-up. Leigh Halfpenny converted to give Scarlets the lead. McNicholl finished expertly to score the second in the right-hand corner after a flowing backline move as the Scarlets took advantage of where Amos would have been positioned. Scarlets led 17-6 at the interval Lewis' long-range penalty hit the post, but after Leigh Halfpenny's long-range clearance kick was collected by Moriarty, the Dragons counter-attacked and Aaron Wainwright set up a try for Jack Dixon. Scarlets' second-half capitulation c...

25-4-19 PREMIERE LEAGUE

FA PREMIERE LEAGUE MAN UTD 0-2 MAN CITY SUPER SILVA City have that breakthrough! Silva fires in low at the post from 15 yards, using Shaw as a dummy. De Gea’s dived but couldn’t get down fast enough. United lose the ball in the opposing half and Stering leads a counter-attack, carrying it 40 yards forward before feeding Sané. From the left-hand side of the box, Sané takes a touch and then lashes a low shot straight at De Gea ... and the keeper manages only to help it into the net! It was powerfully struck but the keeper really should have stopped that. https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2019/apr/24/manchester-united-v-manchester-city-premier-league-live MY OPINION Is this it now for the title race or is there still somewhere where a mistake can be made. If City respect their opponents I cannot see it happening. We might be looking at one of the greats but they have not picked up that Champions League. As for United a game that is defined by 2 errors by the keepe...

premiere league 24-4-19

FA PREMIERE LEAGUE SPURS 1-0 BRIGHTON ERICSON ELATES HOME FANS Brighton were on course to gain a point in their battle to avoid relegation before the Denmark playmaker - Spurs' most effective attacking player throughout - shot low into the corner from 25 yards in the 88th minute. Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld had earlier hit the post while his team-mates Lucas Moura and Dele Alli both had efforts cleared off the goalline. Brighton, without a goal in seven matches, were restricted to counter attacks and set pieces, with the impressive central defensive pairing of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy both heading off target. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47943517 MY OPINION This would have been a vital point for Brighton on their way towards survival but I think that Spurs were lucky to get the win and the way that they did is beginning to make their home seen as a bit of a fortress again SOUTHAMPTON 1-1 WATTFORD GREY GRABS IT Shane Long had given the Saints ...

22-4-19 champions cup

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS CUP SEMIS LEINSTER 30-12 TOLOUSE FREEKY FRADY Prop Cian Healy and London Irish-bound flanker Sean O'Brien showed fine individual skill as their crisp hands helped spring Lowe for the first try on 14 minutes. With Toulouse second row Richie Gray sin-binned for a cynical knock-on at the base of a ruck, Leinster exploited their man advantage with a mammoth driven maul from which McGrath emerged with the ball and score. The home side's defence was equally well-judged. Robbie Henshaw's knock-on under his own post earned him a yellow card of his own, but averted a likely try with Charlie Faumuina poised to thunder into contact. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/48006175 MY OPINION This shows the damage that the Irish Provence can do but for a lot of people it was a surprise that the French side wer3e there. 19-4-19 EUROPA LEAGUE

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE CHELSEA 4-3 SLAVIA PRAGUE agg 3-5 PERFECT PEDRO   Pedro cut infield from the right and played two one-twos, the first with Azpilicueta and the second with Giroud, before lifting the ball gently over Kolar. That was sheer delightful football It was made by Hazard , who scampered into the area, beat Ngadeu and slid the ball across to give Pedro an open goal from two yards. Somehow he managed to slap it onto the post, a quite ridiculous miss, but the ball rebounded off the face of Deli and into the net. This is so easy. Kante slides a fine angled pass to put Pedro through on goal. He could probably score himself but instead squares it for Giroud to slide into an empty net from 12 yards. Tomas Soucek gets an early consolation goal. It was a nice corner routine actually. Sevcik curled it out towards the penalty spot, where Soucek made a late run and planted an excellent header into the net Dear lord, another goal. Hazard releases Emerson, who slides a...

18-4-19 champions league quarters

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER SECCOND LEG PORTO 1-4 LIVERPOOL agg 1-6 VEAUTIFUL VAN DIJK The Reds had been forced to survive an early bombardment in the saturated Estadio do Dragao, before Mane opened the scoring with a sliding effort - from Salah's scuffed shot - which was confirmed by VAR. Salah stroked in a second after the break from a superb counter-attack before Real Madrid-bound defender Eder Militao pulled a goal back for the hosts. Liverpool reasserted their authority though with close-range headers from Firmino and Van Dijk sealing an impressive victory. Remarkably Porto had looked capable of capitalising on a sluggish Liverpool start until Mane's goal swung the momentum of the second leg back in the visitors' favour. Until then Liverpool were the beneficiaries of errant finishing from the home side - with Moussa Marega notably failing to convert any of his five chances in the opening 20 minutes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47953686 M...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BARCELONA 3-0 MAN U Agg 4-0 MAGNIFICANT MESSI Messi put the hosts ahead with a fine curling effort from 20 yards in the 16th minute and four minutes later De Gea let a weaker shot from the edge of the area squirm under his body for the Argentine's second. Philippe Coutinho added a third for Barca in the 61st minute, curling a stunning effort into the top corner from distance. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47939085 MY OPINION Barca were another level ahead of anything United could achieve even at their top form. Solsar has to learn as much as he can from this match and apply it to Man City next week as they did so well in the home leg JUVE 1-2 AJAX agg 2-3 DE LIGHT A DELIGHT Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time winner of the tournament, headed the hosts in front from a first-half corner. But Ajax battled level as Donny van de Beek controlled Hakim Ziyech's shot and slotted past Wojciech Szczesny. Ziyech went close after the break...

16-4-19 premiere league

FA PREMIERE LEAGUE PALICE 1-3 MAN CITY SUPER STERLING Sterling opened the scoring after Kevin de Bruyne's beautifully weighted pass saw his team-mate outsprint Patrick van Aanholt before an exquisite finish beyond Vicente Guaita. England winger Sterling's instinctive finish after Leroy Sane's pass doubled the lead. Palace, who are 11 points above the relegation zone, reduced the deficit through Luka Milivojevic's late free-kick before substitute Gabriel Jesus made it 3-1 with a smart finish. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47842974 MY OPINION Man City have shown themselves to be the best team in England all season and the fact that they did not rest anyone for this game definitely says a lot. The way the talk up Europe you would have seen them field a weakened team   LIVERPOL 2-0 CHELSEA MAGNIFICENT MANE After a nervy first half in which both sides had chances, Liverpool emerged from the break with added purpose and took the lead via Sadio ...

15-4-19 pro 14 matches that matter

PRO 14 RUGBY MATCHES THAT MATTER TREVISO 28-37 MUNSTER GOGGIN GOES Treviso were quick out of the blocks and led 10-0 early on thanks to a Tommaso Benvenuti try and the boot of Tommaso Allan. Munster hit back through converted tries from Rhys Marshall and Dan Goggin, but two penalties from Allan nosed his side back in front at 16-14. JJ Hanrahan kicked the first of three penalties for Munster to regain the lead, but Monty Ioane crossed for Treviso and then Munster lost Darren Sweetnam to the sin bin. Treviso collected a penalty try for a 28-20 lead but Munster then found gear. Shane Daly and Alby Mathewson both crossed the whitewash, with Hanrahan tagging the extras on both for a come-from-behind win. https://www.rte.ie/sport/rugby/2019/0412/1042378-treviso-28-37-munster-pro-14/ MY OPINION Munster have put themselves in a strong position in this season and another win should be enough for Munster to finish in top spot. I see Munster showed here what they can do an...
