26-2-18 6 nations

6 NATIONS IRELAND 37-27 WALES STOCKDALE KEEP IRELAND ON FOR GRAND SLAM Winger Jacob Stockdale scored two tries with Bundee Aki, Dan Leavy and Cian Healy also touching down for the Irish. A score by Gareth Davies had briefly given Wales the upper hand and second-half tries by Aaron Shingler and Steff Evans left the result in the balance. But the visitors were undone by a lack of discipline in head coach Warren Gatland's 100th game in charge. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/43149178 MY OPINION This was a clinical win for the Irish and it shows the potential that they have going forward. This would be considered a frustration for the Welsh but the fact that it went down to the last minute and a break should give wales confidence. SCOTLAND 25-13 ENGLAND JUMPING JONES Centre Huw Jones scored two tries - Scotland's first against England at home in 14 years - and Sean Maitland grabbed another as the hosts led 22-6. Owen Farrell landed two pe...

23-2-18 EUROPA LEAGUE

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE ARSENAL 1-2 OSTERSUNDS AGG 4-2 KOLASIAC SAVES GUNNERS FROM SERIOUS PROBLEM Chambers was arguably at fault for both strikes. For the first, he turned home Aiesh's shot and for the second he was beaten to the ball by Sema and then turned away from the winger's superb finish. Granit Xhaka replaced young midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles at the break and the Gunners looked reasonably comfortable once Kolasinac took advantage of Ronald Mukiibi's air-kick from Bellerin's cross to lash home. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43136849 MY OPINION From such a comfortable position Arsenal could have lost this match and to me that shows a serious problem which they have to look at as now they play City for what will probably be seen as a success by the board this season. The fans want more they have to.   ZENIT 3-0 CELTIC IVANOVIC GOAL KILLS OFF CELTIC Branislav Ivanovic, given a free header inside the box, powered home ...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LAST 16 SEVILLA 0-0 MAN UNITED DE GEA KEEPS UNITED IN GAME De Gea the Spain keeper had kept out efforts from Joaquin Correa and Steven N'Zonzi before showing quick reflexes to produce a one-handed save on the stroke of half-time and deny Luis Muriel's header. United, who were playing their first Champions League knockout game in four years, offered little offensively, with Romelu Lukaku spurning their best chance when he volleyed well over early on before substitute Marcus Rashford dragged a shot wide in the closing stages. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43132792 MY OPINION This result hands the advantage of this match to the Spanish side as United must now win the tie at Old Trafford. If the Spaniards score the United must score 3 and I don’t think that they will have the consistency in their game to do that. SHAKTAR 2-1 ROMA FANTASTIC FRED Argentine striker Facundo Ferreyra, who did not play a minute for...

UEFA CHAMPIONS  LEAGUE LAST 16 CHELSEA 1-1  BARCELONA MESSI MAKES MAGIC The Blues had subdued Messi, and Willian had struck the woodwork twice in the first half before a fine low finish from the edge of the area made it third time lucky for the Brazilian and gave Antonio Conte's side a deserved lead after 62 minutes. Barcelona had barely threatened but a misplaced pass from Andreas Christensen gave Andres Iniesta the opportunity to allow Messi to end his 730-minute drought against Chelsea with a crisp left-foot drive 15 minutes from time. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43117810 MY OPINION That Messi goal and what he can do with a ball changed the whole dynamic of this game and it means that Chelsea must score as Barsa will come at them we can be sure about that. The second leg could be a good match but will depend on who scores first. BAYERN 5-0 BESIKTAS MULLER AND LEWANDOWSKI PUT TIE TO BED  The hosts won their 14th cons...

FA CUP LAST 16 WIGAN 1-0 MAN CITY WILL GRIGG ON FIRE Wigan Athletic ended Manchester City's hopes of a clean sweep of trophies with a stunning upset in their FA Cup fifth-round tie. The League One side survived virtually constant pressure from the Premier League leaders, eventually capitalising on Fabian Delph's controversial first-half red card when Will Grigg struck 11 minutes from time. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43027542 MY OPINION This is the shock of the round by a long way as Man City looked to be unstoppable at any case. Wigan were solid at the back and limited City’s chances. Wigan would be the only team outside the Premiership I could see winning the cup. QUARTER FINAL DRAW Man u v Brighton Leicester v Chelsea Wigan v Southampton Swansea or shef wed v Rochdale or spurs Tie of the round for me is Leicester v Chelsea but the potential upset is Wigan to beat Southampton

19-2-18 FA CUP

FA CUP LAST 16 FRIDAY LEICESTER 1-0 SHEF UTD VARDY VIBRATIONS Mahrez, who was back in the side after missing 10 days of training when a proposed move to Manchester City did not materialise, set up Jamie Vardy's goal. But their Premier League hosts dominated possession, and Vardy had a second effort ruled out for offside. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42998721 MY OPINION Leicester must have a sense of belief that at this moment in time they can win the FA Cup. As I understand it this was a controlled performance that Leicester deserved to win quite comfortably. I don’t think there is any one that they can be afraid of.   CHELSEA 4-0 HULL WILLIAM WAKENS BLUES Willian was fantastic throughout against the Championship strugglers and scored the opener with a curling effort from outside the box. Pedro scored the second when he slipped the ball under David Marshall after latching onto Cesc Fabregas' excellent halfway line pass. Willian the...
