19-2-18 FA CUP
FA CUP LAST 16 FRIDAY
LEICESTER 1-0 SHEF UTD
VARDY VIBRATIONS
Mahrez, who was back in the side after missing 10 days of
training when a proposed move to Manchester City did not materialise, set up
Jamie Vardy's goal.
But their Premier League hosts dominated possession, and
Vardy had a second effort ruled out for offside.
MY
OPINION
Leicester must have a sense of
belief that at this moment in time they can win the FA Cup. As I understand it
this was a controlled performance that Leicester deserved to win quite comfortably.
I don’t think there is any one that they can be afraid of.
CHELSEA 4-0 HULL
WILLIAM WAKENS BLUES
Willian was fantastic throughout against the Championship
strugglers and scored the opener with a curling effort from outside the box.
Pedro scored the second when he slipped the ball under David
Marshall after latching onto Cesc Fabregas' excellent halfway line pass.
Willian then scored his second from 25 yards after playing a
one-two with Giroud.
The France striker then scored his first goal since his move
from Arsenal - a smart finish from close range following debutant Emerson
Palmieri's left-wing cross.
MY
OPINION
This was a controlled performance
and shows that that Chelsea fear no one in this seasons Cup and have the belief
that they can win the whole thing. There are teams though that they can fear
like City and United but Chelsea can attack and destroy any opponent and they
will now not fear Barcelona on Wednesday.
SATURDAY
SHEF WED 0-0 SWANSEA
NO ONE WANTS NO
SCORE DRAW
The Welsh club went nearest to breaking the deadlock when
Mike van der Hoorn's close-range header was brilliantly saved by Cameron Dawson
in the first half.
Adam Reach went close in the opening minutes as the hosts
started brightly, while Atdhe Nuhiu shot straight at Swansea keeper Kristoffer
Nordfelt late on.
MY
OPINION
Swansea are in a relegation
fight and Sheffield Wednesday are also in a relegation fight in the Championship.
I would not be surprised if the game was played out of a sense of fear rather
than a sense to win the game.
WBA 1-2 SOUTHAMPTON
TERRIFIC TADIC
But the fifth-round tie started badly for the hosts when
Saints centre-back Wesley Hoedt took advantage of slack defending to guide home
James Ward-Prowse's corner.
Dusan Tadic's sublime chip seemed to put the game beyond the
Baggies, only for Salomon Rondon's stunning volley to restore their hopes
seconds later.
MY
OPINION
This was a very close tie as
everyone would have expected and both teams would have a feeling that they had
a right to win the match but the fact that West Brom could not score the equalizer was a huge burden after beating Liverpool in the last round.
BRIGHTON 3-1 COVENTRY
GREAT GOLDSON
Jurgen Locadia swept
in Anthony Knockaert's low cross to put the Premier League side in front.
Connor Goldson then headed in a second from Markus Suttner's
corner for his first goal since having career-saving heart surgery last February.
Just after the hour mark, Leonardo Ulloa headed a fine goal
from Bruno Saltor's floated diagonal ball in, scoring for the first time since
rejoining Brighton on loan from Leicester.
MY
OPINION
Little can be learned from a
match like this as Brighton are so many levels ahead of Coventry City. Brighton
haver shown a sense of control but should worry about the goal that they conceded.
The game was already won before the goal was conceded though which helped.
HUDDERSFIELD 0-2 MAN U
LUKAKU EARLY GOAL
GIVES HUD NO HOPE
Lukaku opened the scoring after just three minutes, racing
onto Juan Mata's through ball before finishing at the near post.
The Belgium striker then got his 21st goal of the season
early in the second half as he again broke clear of the Huddersfield defence,
this time picking up Alexis Sanchez's pass before calmly slotting beyond Jonas
Lossl.
Juan Mata had a goal ruled out just before half time by the
video assistant referee (VAR), although there was some confusion over whether
the decision was a correct one.
MY
OPINION
This was a very easy win for Man
United and they can rely on the pace of Lukaku and it can destroy any team. I
have natural hope United to win a trophy this season but there will be distractions
in other competitions.
SUNDAY
ROCHDALE 2-2 SPURS
DELIGHTFUL DAVIEES
SAVES ROCHDALE
Dale had earlier taken the lead when Ian Henderson finished
a counter-attack on the stroke of half-time to score his sixth goal in the
competition this season.
After a poor first-half display, Tottenham found some rhythm
and equalised just before the hour mark through January signing Lucas Moura.
When Harrison McGahey felled Dele Alli inside the penalty
area, Kane made no mistake with the spot-kick to score his 34th goal of the
season.
But Dale forced a replay at Wembley when substitute Davies
swept home from 12 yards.
MY
OPINION
This makes things very tricky
for Spurs the added game does not help them if they want to progress in the Champions
League. The fact that Rochdale have played the fewest games in the league does
not help them in any way and could destroy their prospects.
