 Russia took an early lead through wing Kirill Golosnitskiy, but Matsushima replied for the hosts.
Matsushima grabbed his second to put Japan ahead just before half-time and Pieter Labushagne broke away to add another after the break.
Matsushima then ran through to claim a four-try bonus point for his side.

MY OPINION
This gets the hosts off to a great start but this was the easy tie in the group by a long way. I think that when they play the Irish next weekend they will only then get to see where they are as a side. I do think that this will calm some nerves in the side

CONFEDERATIONS CUP GERMANY 4-1 MEXICO GREAT GORETZKA Leon Goretzka scored twice in the opening eight minutes as Germany beat Mexico 4-1 in Sochi to join Chile in the Confederations Cup final.
