RUGBY WORLD CUP
WALES 43-14 GEORGIA
WILLIAMS WASHES
GEORGIAN
Nice flat pass from Gareth Davies, nice running line, good
try. But somehow, Dan Biggar smacks an very easy conversion against the
left-hand post.
Georgia full-back Matiashvili gets a kick all wrong and
Wales win a line out near halfway. Adams speeds through the defensive line
thanks to a nice pass from Biggar, the Georgian defence is as a result all over
the shop, and Justin Tipuric then sees a yawning gap and runs under the posts for
the second try. Biggar manages not to hit the post from less than 10 metres.
Wales are moving through the gears very nicely.
The Welsh set-piece is functioning smoothly, and Adams needs
no second invitation to run on to a little pop pass by Biggar off his left
shoulder, straight past the floundering Georgian defenders, and into the
left-hand corner. He has too much pace for full-back Matiashvili who makes a
slightly half-hearted attempt to get back and cover. Biggar thumps over an
excellent conversion.
Williams shows good composure to collect a bouncing pass
from Davies with the try-line beckoning and dives over. Wales had 10 minutes or
so in their own half, got the ball back, and went and scored another try.
Good line-out, big shove over the line, and then a brilliant
conversion by Abzhandadze. Wales will be disappointed to concede, but Georgia
are no mugs and that try proves it.
Beautiful kick by North, who sends it in-field from the
right wing, in behind the Georgian defence. Tomos Williams out-sprints the
cover and touches down.
There was a quick tap and go into the Welsh 22, and the ball
was moved left towards the corner. Wales tried to scramble, but didn’t have the
numbers to repel the very powerful Georgians who were massed near the try-line.
Chilachava flops over and there is no mistake from Abzhandadze with the
conversion.
BIG GEORGE NORTH! Sensational skill from Tomos Williams sets
this up, who is already on the board with one try. Out on the right wing,
Williams skips outside then inside, beats a couple of tacklers, and makes light
of another attempted tackle, off-loading one-handed to North, who completes an
excellent finish, stepping outside one defender, then smashing through a couple
of others, and diving over. Before that, it was a very impressive chase by
Tipuric that initially created the pressure on the Georgia defence.
MY
OPINION
This is a good win for the Welsh
but very little can be learned from a game like this but there was a huge disappointment
from the Georgians and their fans in this game. If they are show any signs of quality
it must be fast
RUSSIA 9-34 SAMOA
FANATICAL FATAU
Samaoa No14 Alapati
Leiua comes in off his wing to receive a pass and go over in the corner for the
opening score of the game. It was a good try, finishing a move that saw the
Samoans go through the phases.
Russia
fly-half Yury Kushnarev responds almost immediately, getting three points on
the baord from a penalty.
Good work from
Russia full-back Vasily Artemyev, who sells Alapati Leiua a dummy and makes
ground down the far touchline. An excellent break down the middle from
Russia scrum-half Vasily Dorofeev helps Russia win a penalty. Yury Kushnarev
makes no mistake from the tee and puts his side ahead.
Samoa No8 Afaeseiti Amosa charges over the line, but injures
his hamstring in doing so. Russia prop Kirill Gotvotsev is sin-binned for an
illegal seatbelt tackle on the No8 as he went over the line. Samoa miss the
conversion.
Good defence by Samoa as Russia camp on the edge of their
22. Russia reduce the deficit with a drop goal; Kushnarev bisecting the posts.
From a ruck, Ray Niuia takes the ball, peeloing off the back
of a maul and plays a clever no-look inside pass inside for Ed Fidow to run on
to before scything through the Russian defence. He scores under the posts and
the extras are duly added.
A good offload and Samoa speedily work the ball out their
backs with some deft handling. Having created an overlap, Fidow takes a pass
from Nanai-Williams and goes over for his second try in quick succession. Tusi
Pisi scores the conversion.
They go over again, taking advantage of another overlap, as
Rey Lee-Lo grounds the ball in the corner after excellent work by centre Henry
Taefu. Tusi Pisi pulls his conversion attempt wide of the left post.
MY
OPINION
This was the classic game of 2
halves as Russia showed what they could do and how they can improve in the
first then I the second the Samoans tore the Russians apart and I think that
both teams can learn. I think that the Russians might be developing into strong
squad
