UEFA CHAMPIONS
LEAGUE QUALIFER ROUND 1 LEG 2
CELTIC 2-1 SARIJEVO agg
5-2
MC GREGGER MAGIFIC
Ryan Christie pings it into the top left-hand corner after
some terrific build from Odsonne Edouard.
Benjamin Tatar gets on the end of a head-flick to bury the
ball past Scott Bain.
Against the run of play but the Sarajevo celebrations seem
to indicate they reckon they can upset the apple cart here.
Callum McGregor takes aim from distance and his swerving
shot nestles beyond the keeper.
To be honest McGregor didn't pick a corner but the movement
on the ball made sure it didn't matter.
MY
OPINION
Celtic have a lot to learn from
this tie as they were able to get into the second round with relative ease
again and it does make you wonder whether they should start at round 1 or 2 as
they have a winter season it might help them
ROSENBERG 4-0 LINFIELD
KILLER KONDRANSEN
Linfield were comfortable at the back and even won the first
corner of the game after Lavery had a shot blocked and would have been
disappointed when they went behind on 20 minutes given the manner of the goal.
In the first leg both Rosenborg's goals were preventable and the opener at the
Lerkendal Stadion was in the same category with Kondradsen heading home from a
corner.
Moments later Jordan Stewart flashed a long range effort off
target to illustrate Linfield's frustration. There was also a decent opportunity
for the away side when following a fine move Chris Casement's shot was blocked
by Andre Hansen.
What Linfield needed was a rock steady opening after the
break. They didn't get it with Konradsen once again netting following a corner
on 51 minutes.
Matthew Clarke shot over for the Blues before Helland
smashed a free-kick against the bar at the other end. Helland deservedly ended
up on the scoresheet with five minutes left thanks to unselfish work from
Akintola who had netted number three on 65
MY
OPINION
This was a predictable disaster
but at least this season they have a back door and maybe they can use it to
learn properly. I think they will be able to advance but nothing is easy in
Europe look at cork at the moment.
DUNDALK 0-0 RIGA
LUCK OF THE IRISH
Hoare, who endured a night to forget in Dundalk’s Europa
League defeat to Larnaca last summer, left Latvia as the hero, making a
stunning block to deny Roman Debelko in extra-time before coolly
stroking home the 14th penalty of the shootout to send the travelling support
crazy.
If Hoare was the standout player in white, he was pushed
hard by Gary Rogers. Playing his 41st European game, equalling Ollie
Cahill’s record, the veteran ‘keeper saved two of Riga’s penalties, paving the
way for Dundalk’s win.
MY
OPINION
This was the type of match that
neither team would have wanted and it was massively defensive with few chances
and no one really deserved to win the match. Dundalk are through and need to
take this important momentum forward they could have an easier tie against a
bigger club next
