CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
GROUP E
BENFICA 1-1 AJAX
ZIPPY ZIYECH
An absolute gift from Onana, who rushes off his line to deal
with Salvio's cross but gets nowhere close to it as it sails over his head and
straight to Jonas, who turns it into an empty net!
Ziyech clips an absolutely stunning ball over the top to
pick out the run of Tadic, and the Serbian takes it smartly, poking the ball
beyond Vlachodimos with his first touch before squeezing a finish in at the
near post with his second!
MY
OPINION
This was a tight match that in
my opinion did not deserve a looser and it did not get one. Benfica would now
regret missing the chance to get the win here but their fates might be settled
in what competition they compete in.
BAYERN MUNICH 2-0 AEK
ATHENS
LOVELY LEWANDOWSKI
Penalty to Bayern! Cosic foolishly holds onto Lewandowski as
the corner comes in and the referee points to the spot. The Polish
international stutters in his run up and sends the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Lewandowski pokes the ball home at the back post from a
corner. The cross had flicked off a defender and the Bayern centre forward
escaped his marker to get his second of the night.
MY
OPINION
This result says to me that
Bayern are going to be one of the teams impossible to beat and Aek have got no
hope of qualifying given for the Europa but relying on Lewonski is a near impossibility
as he is one of the greats of European football but what if they lose him where
are they.
GROUP F
LYON 2-2 HOFFENHEEIM
KARATE KADERBEK
Lyon had so many chances to score before their captain did.
First, Mendy smacked the post before NDombele had two attempts on the rebound.
Fekir finally bundled it in soon after, despite Baumann’s best efforts
The midfielder side-foots a cutback into Vogt and past
Baumann. It’s been a close match but Lyon have had that cutting edge – and
fortune.
Kramaric scuffs a shot from outside the area that
finds the bottom-left corner. Lopes wrong-footed himself when the Croatian took
Morel’s foul proves costly as Joelinton flicks on a
free-kick to the back post, where Kaderabek is lurking to side-foot in an
equaliser. 2-2. How have Lyon let this slip?
MY
OPINION
This was a very lucky point that
keeps the Bundesliga side in the competition and in my opinion they have to be
seen as a team that will never give up no matter what and that is a strategy that
is good in any side.
MAN CITY 6-0 SCHACTAR
DONESK
IS THIS JESUS
Mahrez twists and turns on the byline, sells Rakitskiy a
dummy, and smashes the ball low across goal with his right foot, where Silva is
waiting to tap it home from two yards out.
Sterling races through on goal, gets his feet all in a
muddle, trips on the turf and the referee points to the spot! Matviyenko is
penalised, but the Shakhtar right back was a good yard behind Sterling when he
went down. To say that there wasn’t contact is an understatement, Matviyenko
wasn’t even in the same postcode. Jesus
gets his goal, sending Pyatov the wrong way.
Sterling picks the ball up with his back to goal in
midfield, turns sharply, somehow squeezes past the pincer tackles of both
Maycon and Stepanenko, and curls a peach into the top right-hand corner. That’s
a Fifa goal,
stepanenko is complaining to the referee, claiming he got
some of the ball in a tackle on David Silva, but it’s an obvious spot-kick. Just
as he did before, Gabriel Jesus sends Pyatov to his left, and shoots to the
keeper’s right, his shot just creeping under the bar. A cracking penalty,
actually
Mahrez has been threatening that all night. That is now 20
goals in City’s last five home games, they have conceded just one in that time.
Hat-trick for Gabriel Jesus, but suicidal defending from
Shakhtar: Mahrez picks Rakitskiy’s pocket, sends Gabriel Jesus through on goal
and the Brazilian simply chips the ball over Pyatov into the net. An exquisite
lob. It’s not been the most comprehensive performance from Gabriel Jesus but
he’s only bloody scored three times.
MY
OPINION
Man City have got the ability to
win this match within an instant and they look incredible both in England and
in Europe. Shactar have serious problems that they need to correct right now
especially in defence and I think that there is very little margin for error.
GROUP G
CSKA MOSCOW 1-2 ROMA
PERFECT PELLEGRINI
The ideal start! Roma win a corner, Pellegrini swings it in
- and Mangolas gets
the touch to beat Akinfeev!
CSKA equalise. Sigurdsson converts from inside the box.
Cristante feeds the ball in to Pellegrini who gets it under
control inside the box before slotting his shot under Akinfeev and home!

MY
OPINION
This was a huge away win for
Roma which gives them a sense of control in the group knowing that the significant
of this win was massive and they were that little bit lucky to get the win
here. I think that CSKA can be proud also.
VICTORIA PLEZN 0-5 REAL
MADRID
BANGERS BENZEMA
The Spanish side break the deadlock with a sublime goal from
the Frenchman. He latches on to a pass from Kroos down the left to break into
the box. The forward beats two Plzen defenders with a neat piece of skill
before slotting his effort past Hruska displaying total composure.
Solari punches the air in delight as his side double their
advantage. Kroos swings a corner in from the left flank and Casemiro is
presented with a free header on the penalty spot. The Brazilian directs his
header towards the bottom corner and he finds the net beating the hand of
Hruska.
Benzema scores a simple header from close range,
guiding his effort beyond Hruska. Plzen switched off at the back from the
Madrid corner and Vazquez was allowed to lift a cross to the back post. Bale
won the first header to direct the ball towards Benzema, who finished the
opening with ease.
With Benzema getting a slight touch to direct the ball into
the Welshman's path. Unmarked at the back post, Bale swings a leg on the
half-volley to find the bottom corner with deadly precision.
Vinicius leads the counter for the visitors before sliding
an offload to Kroos in the left inside channel. The German spots Hruska off his
line and he lifts the ball over the keeper into the net. A super finish from
Kroos.
MY
OPINION
No doubt about it this was an awesome
performance by Real Madrid but it shows you what having so much one can do for
you sometimes and you can never rule Real out of any soccer tournament but defensively
this was a bad match foe Plezn
GROUP H
VALENCIA 3-1 YOUNG BOYS
MUCHO MINA
Santi Mina left
footed shot from very close range to the bottom left corner.
Roger Assalé right footed shot from the right side of the
box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Christian Fassnacht.
Santi Mina right
footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by
Carlos Soler with a cross
Carlos Soler right footed shot from the right side of the
box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Rodrigo Moreno.
MY
OPINION
This result has kept the
Spaniards in the group and made this group look very interesting. Young boy’s
fait seems to be sealed as they will not be competing in Europe next season. I
think that Young Boys had a chance at 1-1 to make a difference.
JUVENTOS 1-2 MAN U
MIGHTY MATA
That is simply brilliant! Bonucci dropped a beautiful pass
from just inside United’s half over the head of Lindelof and into the path of
Ronaldo, who smashes it first time on the run and on the volley past a stunned
De Gea from 10 yards!
Young does a decoy run over the ball ... and Mata steps up
and curls the freekick over the wall and into the net, past Szczesny, who had
started moving the other way!
United have a come from a goal down to lead in Turin thanks
to two goals in less than four minutes! A vicious in-swinging freekick from
Young did the damage, with Szczesny taken by surprise and pushing it off his
line right into Alex Sandro, who couldn’t do anything to stop it bouncing off
him and into the net!
MY
OPINION
I think that this shows what united
have the potential to do during a regular season but we haven’t seen from I this
one so far and might be a result that keeps Morinhos job to the end of the
season. This was a defensive nightmare from Juventos and must find out what
happened.
