FIFA WORLD CUP
GROUP G
ENGLAND 0-1 BELGIUM
JUMPING JANUZAJ
Out of nothing, a gorgeous goal! Januzaj cuts in from the
right, drops a shoulder to waltz past Rose, and curls an unstoppable shot across
Pickford and into the top left! Batshuayi celebrates by catching the ball as it
springs from the net and battering against the post. It rebounds into his
startled coupon. Entertainment worth waiting for!
MY
OPINION
England can look at this match
with a sense that they have got the potential to go far in the competition.
Belgium do look impressive and seem like they can beat anyone at this moment
but as both teams took a few risks maybe there is less assurances.
PANAMA 1-2 TUNISIA
KICKING KHAZRO
After Mathlouthi makes an awkward save from a long shot,
Panama recycle possession. Rodriguez passes to Torres at the edge of the box
and then takes the return ball and lets fly from 25 yards. It takes a
deflection of Meriah, wrongfoots the keeper and trundles into the net!
Lovely goal! A nifty passing move initiated by Sliti
concludes with Khazri sliding a perfect pass across the face of goal for Ben
Youssef to lift into the net from close range!
That’s another lovely move, leaving Khazri with an easy
finish from close range. Sliti and Haddadi made it with a sharp exchange down
the left before Haddadi teed up Khazro for the tap-in.
MY
OPINION
This was Panamas chance to get
something out of this world cup as they had control of the match at a certain
point. Tunisia showed their experience to be able to get victory from the jaws
of defeat and would have been something to have bettered in earlier rounds.
GROUP H
JAPAN 0-1 POLAND
BLASTING BEDNAREK
Southampton’s Jan Bednarek scores his first ever
international goal and it’s a good one. Poland won a free-kick on the
inside-left channel and Rafal Kurzawa curled the ball across the face of goal
towards the far post. Rujnning towards goal, Bednarek struck the ball past
Kawashima with a deft side-footed effort. As things stand.
MY
OPINION
There were points in this match
where it felt like it was a result for both teams rather than for just the one
as there was a lot of holding of the ball by Japan when they were 1-0 down and
I am not sure that I agree with that tactic.
SENEGAL 0-1 COLOMBIA
MIGHTY MINA
They say never make a substitution before you defend a set
piece, and this is why! The corner comes in, and Mina rises unmarked to head
down and in!
MY
OPINION
I thought that the Africa side
would give more of a test than this but appeared that once they conceded the
goal they were not sure what to do. There may be a bit of a problem with
African football at the moment as none of the 5 teams qualified for the last
16.
