FIFA WORLD CUP
GROUP E
SERBIA 0-2 BRAZIL
PERFECT PALINHO
Coutinho spots a tremendous run from deep by Paulinho and
clips the perfect pass through to him. The keeper charges out but Paulinho gets
there first and pokes the bouncing ball over him and into the net!
Brazil zip forward and wins a couple of corner. Neymar curls
the second one into the near post and Thiago Silva heads into the net from six
yards!
MY
OPINION
Brazil look like they are
getting better as the tournament is going on and I think that they have the
quality to kill off any team like they did Serbia. I think that Serbia had some
poor defending for Brazils first goal which killed them off.
SWITZERLAND 2-2 COSTA
RICA
RUIZ GETS LUCKY
Lichtsteiner’s deep cross was headed down superbly by Embolo
into the path of Dzemaili, who battered it into the net from eight yards.
Kendall Waston scores Costa Rica’s first goal of the
tournament! Campbell swerved a right-wing corner towards the six-yard line,
where Waston shoved Akanji aside and flicked an accomplished header into the
corner.
That was a fine finish. Zakaria played a low ball into the
box from the right, and when Acosta slipped it allowed Drmic to run onto the
ball and curl a classy first-time shot into the corner.
This referee seems determined to give Costa Rica a penalty.
Campbell goes over after a challenge from Zakaria and a penalty is given. It’s
a bit soft, that - if anything Campbell fouled Zakaria.
Bryan Ruiz, with what is almost certainly his last kick at a
World Cup, steps up - and he scores! Well, kind of. The penalty hit the
underside of the bar, rebounded onto the back of Sommer and into the net. It’ll
go down as an own goal.
MY
OPINION
Switzerland are definitely
better than this result shows and I think that they have shown the ability and
that they can improve in the knock stage but Costa Rica should be disappointed as
if they put in performances like this earlier they might have got more points.
GROUP F
SOUTH KOREA 2-0 GERMANY
YOUNG-GWON YES
Ju robbed Neuer inside South Korea’s half. Uh oh! Ju turns
and sees Son, who’s inside South Korea’s half. He sets off in pursuit of the
pass, reaches it and taps into an empty net!
The ball came off a Germany player after a messy scramble,
so the goal has to stand! Kroos panicked and played the ball through Sule’s
legs and it fell to Kim Young-gwon. He collected it on the edge of the six-yard
box and his finish was nerveless!
MY
OPINION
Disaster for Germany first and foremost
and they might have to have a plan to sort out why this had happened. For South
Korea though this was a battle until stoppage time when they were able to just
kill off the Germans with ease. I think the Koreans will be happy in third.
MEXICO 0-3 SWEDEN
AUGINSSON ARRIVES
Sweden’s left-back Ludwig Augustinsson scores his first ever
goal for his country, rampaging up the field to volley home from a tight angle
after connecting with a Viktor Claesson cross from the right on the
half-volley.
Now Marcus Berg is down for Sweden, after shipping one in
the ribs from Edson Alvarez as the pair contested a high ball on the left side
of the Mexico penalty area
Granqvist scores his second penalty of the tournament,
blasting the ball into the top left-hand corner. Guillermo Ochoa went the right
way, but was unable to keep it out
Mexico right-back Edson Alvarez cuts a forlorn figure as he
wonders what on earth just happened to him. Sweden took a long throw from the
right touchline, the ball was flicked on by Thelin and Alvarez somehow
contrived to kick it on to his own standing leg pinball it over the line from
two yards out.
MY
OPINION
I don’t think that there will be
a happier bunch of people after losing 3-0 in a match as the result in the
other match assured both teams would go into the knockout stage. Mexico have
shown their flaws and they will need to be fixed quickly for their knockout
stages.
