FIFA WORLD CUP
GROUP C
AUSTRILIA 0-2 PERU
GREEDY GUERRO KNOCKS
OUT AUSSIES
Long ball for Guerrero that the skipper does well to chase
down and then cross for Carrillo to smash home on the volley from the edge of
the box
Lovely interplay down the left ends with Cueva cutting
inside to shoot but the ball ricochets off an Australian defender to Guerrero
who clips a neat poacher’s finish with his left foot across Ryan.
MY
OPINION
Australia had a real chance to
play themselves into contention but after they conceded the first goal I think
that they gave up and I don’t really know how they should look at this world
cup. As for Peru this is an honourable win.
DENMARK 0-0 FRANCE
HAREIDE COACHES
DENMARK TO LAST 16
But they saw little in the way of goal-mouth excitement,
with the first shot on target arriving in the 39th minute, when France's
Antoine Griezmann turned to fire a tame effort at Kasper Schmeichel from the
edge of the area
Denmark did fashion the best chance of the first half, when
France keeper Steve Mandanda just beat Christian Eriksen to Andreas Cornelius's
excellent low cross.
But their only shot on target came after 54 minutes when
Mandanda spilled Eriksen's free-kick. The Marseille keeper recovered before
Cornelius could capitalise on the rebound.
MY
OPINION
Denmark were looking at the
other match in the group as they played like they knew the result and were
going to be happy with a bore draw. As for France this does make me think maybe
they are hyped up a lot and should always play with a sense of attack.
GROUP D
ICELAND 1-2 CROTIA
PERSISTENT PERSIC
Croatia benefit from a succession of handy deflections and
bounces before finally the ball heads to Badelj, who controls his volley
beautifully and sends it crashing into the net from 10 yards!
Iceland cross from the right, and it hits Lovren’s left arm.
There’s clear movement of arm towards ball, and that’s as clear as you’re going
to get.
And Sigurdsson sends it down the middle and high into the
roof of the net, with the keeper diving out of the way!
Perisic is sent into the left side of the area, and he
crashes in a high left-foot shot, which Halldorsson gets two hands to but only
pushes higher into the corner of his net.
MY
OPINION
A touch of class from Crotia
makes a huge difference as we got to see what one quality team can do in an
instant. Iceland definitely had their chances but could not covert them.
NIJERIA 1-2 ARGENTENA
RUNING ROJO
Ever Banagea picks up possession on the halfway line, looks
up and looks for Lionel Messi. There he is, peeling away from Omeruo on the
right of the Nigeria area. Banega’s raking pass is perfect. The ball drops on
to Messi’s thigh. He controls with his thigh, then cushions it forward with his
boot and Omeruo isn’t close enough to him, allowing the little genius to fire a
rising right-footed shot across Uzoho! Captain, leader, legend.
Etebo’s corner from the left is headed away but Mascherano’s
penalised for holding Balogun! Mascherano’s booked. There’s a quick VAR check,
but the decision stands.
This is so cool! Moses casually strolls up to the ball,
waits for Armani to move to the right and then rolls the ball to the other
side!
Rojos chased forward in desperation and he volleys a
right-footed shot into the bottom left corner! Argentina go wild! Diego
Maradona goes wild
MY
OPINION
Argentina were very lucky to get
out of this match in one piece as it took them so long to score the defining
goal. They do not look like a team that can threaten for the World cup as for Nigeria
this was a typical African performance should do better.
