FIFA WORLD CUP GROUP A
SAUDI ARIBIA 2-1 EGYPT
DYNAMIC AL-DAWSARI

What a save from Essam Elhadary, who celebrates becoming the oldest player in World Cup history by saving Fahad Al Mulwallad’s penalty kick. He dives to his right and knocks the ball off the crossbar and back into play. Super agility from the 45-year-old.
That was a wonderful finish from Salah, who sprinted between two defenders to latch on to a long, bouncing ball from deep. He controlls the ball beautifully with his first two touches before lifting it over the onrushing goalkeeper with his third. He wheels away in celebration as the ball bounces into the net
Referee Wilmar Perez spots a handball in the Egypt area and points to the spot. It’s going to VAR.
Salman Al Faraj sends the goalkeeper the wrong way and blasts the ball down the left. That penalty looked a little harsh too - Fahad Al Mulwallad and Ali Gabr both had a hold of each other’s shirts as the Saudi striker went to ground.
A low drive into the bottom corner from a tight angle by Salem Al Dawsari wins the match for Saudi Arabia

MY OPINION
There is little in this match and that was how it ran for most of the match. I do think though that Egypt were a bit hard done by and deserved to get a point but to lose a match like that is a little bit cruel.
URGUAUY 3-0 RUSSIA
SUPER SUAREZ

The free-kick is inside the D, inches outside the area. Ignashevich and Cavani are jostling and pushing on the edge of the wall. They’re slightly blocking Akinfeev’s view. Ignashevich ends up pushing Cavani, but he goes with the Uruguay striker and that opens up the space for Suarez to belt a low, right-footed shot firmly into the bottom-left corner! You always sensed that Russia were in trouble. As it stands,
Torreira’s corner’s headed away and reaches Laxalt on the edge of the Russia area. Laxalt takes a touch and then lets fly with his left foot. The shot looks to be heading wide - until it hits Cheryshev’s heel and spins low to Akinfeev’s right! That is mightily unfortunate, not that Uruguay care.
Laxalt tears down the left flank and he has far too much pace for the Russian right-back, who slides to chop the Uruguayan down. That’s a second booking. Russia are down to 10 men. Can they get Toni Kroos to play for them?
Torreira whips the corner in and the unmarked Godin heads it towards the right corner. Akinfeev makes the save but Cavani beats Suarez to the rebound and opens his account for the tournament from a yard out.
MY OPINION
Uruguay will be a threat to anyone when it comes to the knockout stages of this year’s World cup and Russia must be disappointed not just in the fact that they lost but how they lost and the job will not get any easier in the last 16.

FIFA WORLD CUP GROUP B
PORTUGAL 1-1 IRAN
ANSARIFARD GETS IRAN SURPRISE POINT

A lovely shot with the outside of Quaresma’s foot curls and dips over Beiranvand and in!
Quaresma is tripped. The referee gives nothing, so he gets up and hares after the ball, which is at the feet of the unfortunate Ezatolahi. Quaresma takes aim at every available ball, including the two between his opponent’s legs. He is now receiving treatment, and Quaresma has been booked.
Ronaldo cuts inside from the left flank before eventually shooting wide from 20 yards.
There’s a penalty incident in review here, a ludicrous claim of handball against Cedric Soares. Azmoun headed the ball down into his arm from no distance at all.
If Ronaldo wants penalty-taking lessons, this guy seems to know a thing or two about them. Ansarifard sidefoots it Kane-style into the top right corner!
MY OPINION
This was not the best result for Portugal but they do still remain in the competition. Iran must feel that they have went out with a sense of pride as they have shown that they can stop one of the best players in the world.
MOROCCO 2-2 SPAIN
AWSOME ASPAS

Ramos and Iniesta left the ball to each other on the halfway line, a bizarre bit of play that allowed Boutaib to march straight through on goal. He charged into the area, kept his cool and slid the ball between De Gea’s legs.
It was a lovely team move, a textbook example of progressive tiki-taka. Iniesta to Isco to Costa, who quickened things up with an excellent first-time pass to Iniesta on the left of the box. He surged past a defender to the byline and slipped it back to Isco, who took a touch and rammed the ball over Munir from close range.
Morocco lead through an immense header from the substitute Youssef En-Nesyri!
It came from a short corner that was whipped in and flicked cleverly into the by Aspas. The flag went up but it’s being reviewed, and replays suggest Aspas was onside.
Morocco will be furious if the goal is given, because the corner came after Busquets got away with what looked like a foul near the halfway line.
MY OPINION
Spain have shown in this match that they are never out of a game at any stage and that sometimes having that little bit of luck can help you. Morocco should not be disappointed as they scored their first goal since France 98 and got a surprise point.
