29-5-18 soccer weekend
UEFA CHAMPIONS
LEAGUE FINAL
REAL MADRID 3-1
LICVERPOOL
BRILLIANT BALE BUT
KALAMATUS KARIUS
Liverpool had already suffered the devastating blow of
losing top scorer Mohamed Salah midway through the first half - with a shoulder
injury sustained in a challenge with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos - when
calamity struck for Karius.
Six minutes after half-time, the German inexplicably threw
the ball against Karim Benzema, who was not even challenging with urgency, and
watched in horror as the ball rolled behind him into the net.
Liverpool recovered from the shock to equalise through Sadio
Mane before Bale stepped off the bench to score his wonder goal.
There was to be no comeback from Liverpool this time and
Karius's misery was complete when he fumbled Bale's hopeful 30-yard shot behind
him to seal Real's win.
MY
OPINION
This game was defined by the
wonder goal by Bale but if Karius had not made the mistakes that Kari7us has
made that ruined any hope that Liverpool had and if they did not concede the
first goal they could have frustrated Real Madrid to push forward. If it was
1-0 Bale due to the overhead kick I would be over it 10 minutes later but
because the game was lost by stupid errors that is the thing that annoys me.
CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY
OFF FINAL
FULLHAM 1-0 VILLA
CRAFTY CAIRNEY
Captain Tom Cairney was their goal scorer, finishing neatly
underneath Villa goalkeeper Sam Johnstone after latching onto Ryan Sessegnon's
pass midway through the first half.
A fractious game ended with Fulham down to 10 men after
centre-back Denis Odoi was sent off for two bookable offences - both for fouls
on Jack Grealish.
MY
OPINION
A very tight match that could be
won by either side but it was that one piece of magic that made the difference
for Fulham. Things will not be easy for them in the Premiere League but they
have shown that without conceding with 10 men for 20 minutes that they have got
the quality to do it. Villa must feel a huge sense of disappointment.
LEAGUE 2 PLAY OFF
FINAL
ROTHERHAM 2-1
SHREWSBURY
WOOD WOBBLES BURY
After David Ball's missed first-half penalty, given for a
foul by Omar Beckles, Wood headed Rotherham in front in the League One play-off
final.
Alex Rodman levelled with a well-worked second-half
equaliser for Shrewsbury.
But Wood stole in unmarked to meet another Joe Newell cross
and steer home a 103rd-minute winner off the post.
MY
OPINION
I think that this was a very
even match that both teams had chances to win but I think that the fact that
Rotherham had god more energy and were able to kill off the Shrews in the second
half helped. I think they might go straight back down. The Shrews will push again
for play offs.
LEAGUE 2 PLAY OFF
FINAL
COVENTRY 3-1 EXETER
SUPER SHIPLEY
Coventry took a deserved lead after half-time when
centre-back Jordan Willis bent a shot into the far corner.
Fellow academy product Jordan Shipley made it 2-0 when his
first-time strike deflected over goalkeeper Christy Pym.
Jack Grimmer guided a stunning third into the top corner,
with Kyle Edwards netting Exeter's consolation.
MY
OPINION
Coventry are a big club bigger
than the league that they are playing in definitely. They will be able to
compete in League 1 and think next season will be a good season next season. Shipley
has definitely made a name for himself in this league
