30-6-17 SOCCER RESULTS
CONFEDERATIONS CUP
GERMANY 4-1 MEXICO
GREAT GORETZKA
Leon Goretzka scored twice in the opening eight minutes as Germany beat Mexico 4-1 in Sochi to join Chile in the Confederations Cup final.
The Schalke midfielder swept home a Benjamin Henrichs pass
from 20 yards and then slotted home from Timo Werner's through ball.
Werner then tapped home Jonas Hector's pass to increase
Germany's lead.
Marco Fabian scored a brilliant 35-yard strike for Mexico,
before Amin Younes added a fourth for Germany.
MY OPINION
Germany has shown in this competition
that they are definitely the team to watch out for in this competition and
moving forward. I feel that you cannot call them anything but hot favourites
against Chile as they look impressive in world cup qualifying while Chile do
not look as impressive.
I say Germany 2-0 Chile in final
LEDVIA TALIN 0-2 CORK
CITY
BRILLIANT BUCKLY
Goals from Garry
Buckley and sub Steven Beattie gave the Premier Division leaders a
well-deserved two-goal cushion to bring back to Turner's Cross for the second
leg next week.
MY
OPINION
This match gives me hope for
Cork in this competition and I think they can go to dreamland. In Ireland they
look on fire and unless they play a big
team who I think they can compete with I think that they will be fine. If they
play smart they will win the second leg.
STJARNAM 0-1 SHAMROCK
ROVERS
SUPER SHAW
Gary Shaw's first half goal brought Shamrock Rovers a
deserved victory in their Europa League first qualifying round, first leg at
the Stjörnuvöllur in Reykjavik.
MY
OPINION
Nothing is certain in this match
and even with an away goal Shamrock Rovers will have to know how to play their
football better as this tie is effectively even and Rovers have to know how to
play the tie as if it was 1-1 otherwise they will go out.
MIDTJYLLAND 6-1 DERRY
CITY
KROON MAKES
EVERYTHING COOL IN DENMARK
The Danish Superliga side took control from the outset as
Marc dal Hende found the net in the fourth minute.
Kristian Riis sidefooted in and captain Jakob Poulsen scored
from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 at half-time.
Simon Kroon was on target twice in two minutes around the
hour mark, before Ronan Curtis pulled one back, but Bozhidar Kraev added his
side's sixth.
MY
OPINION
No one with any sense saw this
as anything but an easy win for the Danish side but there was a sense of hope
when Derry scored to make it 5-1 maybe with another that this could be a tie. We
did not see the energy needed from that point t but quality matters.
SAINT JOHNSTONE 1-2 FK
TRAKAI
SILENAS SECCOND MAKE
IT DIFFICULT FOR SAINTS
The visitors took the lead when a clever dummy from the
impressive Oscar Dorley set up Maksim Maksimov to net.
Defender Joe Shaughnessy headed home Liam Craig's corner to
level but Trakai responded with a stunning long-range strike from Vaidotas
Silenas.
Craig and Graham Cummins wasted chances as Saints failed to
find an equaliser.
Trakai finished with 10 men as Silenas picked up a second
yellow card with eight minutes left, but the visitors held on.
MY
OPINION
Saint Johnstone will have a very
difficult time of it in the next round as again this looks like a bad day for
Scottish football. I think that this might be something that Scottish football
might have to look at and learn from.
RANGERS 1-0 PROGRES
NIERERORKON
MAGNIFICENT MILLER
Miller raced on to a Niko Kranjcar free-kick and fired low
past Sebastian Flauss to edge his side ahead.
But Pedro Caixinha's outfit were unable to add to their lead
and now face a testing time in Luxembourg next week.
MY
OPINION
This result must be a worry for
Rangers and their fans as they must expect to get past the first round quite easily
and this must put a lot of concern on a lot of faces. I think Rangers need to
up their pre-season
HAGUESUEND 7-0 COLRANE
IDEKI KILLS OF MATCH
AS A TIE
Sondre Tronstad fired
home the opener from outside the box and further strikes by Liban Ali Abdi and
Haris Hajradinovic made it 3-0 at the break.
Ikedi Ikenna Anthony, Shuaibu Ibrahim, Erik Huseklepp and
Johnny Per Buduson found the net to pile further misery on their visitors in
the second half.
MY
OPINION
Results like this make you think
that the Europa League should be split into some form of a league format with
promotions and relegations as results like this help no one. All you can do is
learn that you are not ready for this fright
ODD 3-0 BALLYMENA
MLADENOVIC MAKES
MAGIC
Stefan Mladenovic slotted the ball under goalkeeper Ross
Glendinning for the opener after just 34 seconds.
Martin Erik Broberg then fired home the follow-up after Jone
Samuelsen's 53rd-minute penalty had hit the bar.
United put up a spirited display and carved out some chances
of their own but Steffen Hagen scored in added time.
MY
OPINION
A bad result her for Ballymena
that makes me think in the second leg all they have to play for us a sense of
pride. I feel that for teams like this all they can see matches like this is a
chance to see where they are in the football shake up.
CRUSADERS 3-1 LUPJAJA
LOVELY LAWLERY
Irish Premiership runners-up Crusaders beat Latvian
opponents FC Liepaja 3-1 in the first leg of their Europa League first qualifying
round tie at Seaview.
Goals from Philip Lowry and Michael Carvill gave Stephen
Baxter's side a deserved 2-0 lead at half-time.
Jordan Owens extended the lead early in the second half but
Arturs Karasausks netted a potentially crucial away goal on the hour.
MY
OPINION
The Crews have got something
here to play with and they would now believe that they can get through to the
next round and I would believe that this is something that they can do. I think
this team can make a mark but if they play a good team they will find it hard
GAP1-0 HJK HELSINKI
WOOLFE GOAL COPULD
CHANGE HOW UEFA SEE WELSH FOOTBALL
But after Woolfe's cross-shot put Nomads ahead just before
half-time, Helsinki could find no way through against a fine defensive effort.
MY OPINION
To me this is good as the nation
is getting better let’s hope that the club sides improve and they find better
players at home as that is a prototype that the
Irish are looking at and it is working quite well. I think this was a
simple enough draw but they still have to play the away leg.
LYNGBY 1-0 BANGOR CITY
BUMBLE BLUME
The Citizens trailed from the 13th minute when Bror Blume
shot across Connor Roberts into the top-right corner of the net.
The Bangor goalkeeper was kept busy all evening as Lyngby.
The Danes finished with 10 men after defender Hallgrimur
Jonasson was shown a second yellow card late on, and he will miss the second
leg on 6 July.
MY
OPINION
This must be seen as a disappointment
and a match that could have been won rather than lost. The home leg will change
everything but you can not be sure in
what way.
TNS 1-2 EUROPA
GOMEZ MAKES THINGS
DIFFICULT FOR TNS
Alex Quillo gave the Gibraltese side an early lead from Kike
Gómez's cross.
Scott Quigley equalised a minute before the break, taking a
through ball and turning his defender before lashing a brilliant shot over Javi
Munoz.
But Europa snatched a vital lead when Gómez curled home a
beauty after Liam Walker broke down the right.
Saints have reached the second qualifying round in each of
the last five seasons, but interim manager Scott Ruscoe will need his side to
produce a better performance in the second leg.
MY
OPINION
This match is not over and if
TNS can score an early goal then they have real hope of getting into the second
round but the longer Europa hold them out the more chance there is of TNS going
out at the first round.
