FA CUP LAST 16
PORTSMOUTH O-2 ARSENAL
SOKRATES GOT SKILLS
Arsenal were fortunate to go into the break a goal up, and
it came from an unlikely source as Sokratis controlled a volley into the bottom
corner from Reiss Nelson's dangerous cross
Nelson created the second shortly after the break, taking on
his man on the right before delivering for Nketiah to bundle home from close
range
MY
OPINION
Arsenal have not had the best of
seasons so far so this might be their only way into Europe. A weakened team can
do a go0od job here as for Portsmouth they can now concentrate on whether or
not they get promoted
CHELSEA 2-0 LIVERPOOL
WILLIAM ADDS TO
ANFIELD WOES
Mere seconds after making a splendid double-save, one of
them from a Willian drive from distance, Adrian has a shocker. Trying to play the
ball out from the back, Fabinho loses the ball, gifting Willian a shooting
opportunity from about 25 yards. He fires straight at Adrian, who gets both
hands to the ball but somehow contrives to parry it to his left, into his own
net.
Ross Barkley
drives towards the Liverpool goal from halfway and with their
defenders backing off, he opts not to pick out Pedro on his right, instead
smashing the ball past Adrian from outside the penalty area into the bottom
left-hand corner.
MY
OPINION
Liverpool n3eed to get a big result
on the weekend if they are to have any chance in Europe next week as they play
Athletico who played the perfect game that killed the reds. They are getting better
but need to get rid of the simple errors now. Errors by the keepetr might now
mean this is Aidrians last game of the season as you know Alison will be no 1
and the Irish keeper might get as medal. They need to play the way they did
before the midterm break.
WBA 2-3 NEWCASTLE
ALMIMMON ALRIGHT
Allan Saint-Maximin managed to change that
impression just past the half hour with a telling midfield break and a neat
ball behind the West Brom central defenders for Almirón to run on to. He was
clear on goal and made no mistake.
Right on the stroke of the interval that lead was doubled,
with Almirón striking again to record his first Newcastle double. When
Joelinton received the ball following a Valentino Lazaro run down the right he
was facing away from goal, and his improvised backheel towards the penalty spot
looked hopeful, yet Almirón not only reached it at a stretch he managed to find
the top corner in the act of sliding to the floor.
The tie seemed to be over when the visitors scored a third
just minutes into the second half. Almirón and Saint-Maximin combined once
again, and though the latter put his cross too close to the goalkeeper all Bond
could manage was to push the ball into the oncoming Lazaro, who bundled it over
the line. VAR might have checked for handball but in its absence the goal stood
with few complaints.
Kyle Edwards then saw a deflected effort cannon off the
crossbar before, with 16 minutes remaining, Albion did pull a goal back,
Phillips was the scorer, firing home after a clever knockdown from substitute
Kenneth Zohore.
Zohore then spurned two late opportunities before turning
home Edwards’ low cross in stoppage time to set up a grandstand finish.
MY
OPINION
Newcastle were very lucky to get
away with this match but at least there is something to focus on for the season
and to win a trophy would make the fans happy. As for WBA they can focus now on
getting promoted back to the Premiere league
READING 1-2 SHEF UTD
SHARP STINGS
The Blades did not have to wait long to take the lead in the
tie, going ahead in just the second minute. Luke Freeman drove through the
midfield, before passing to Ben Osborn who sent in a well-weighted cross from
the left which McGoldrick headed home.
Just as the visitors looked to be taking control of the
match, referee Kevin Friend pointed to the spot after Andy Rinomhota was brought
down in the box by George Baldock. Reading leading goalscorer Puscas calmly put
the ball to the right of Henderson to level the tie and score his 11th goal of
the season in all competitions.
In added time in the first period of extra time, Sharp made
the decisive breakthrough when he nodded in a Freeman cross.
MY
OPINION
For Sheffield United a team playing
for Europe in the league it must be considered a huge disappointment to be held
to extra time with a club holding off relegation in the Championship but they
got the job done which for me is the main thing
