VILLA 5-0 LIVERPOOL
KODJIA KILLS OF ANY
ANFIELD HOPE
Hourihane whips it in low, Kodjia is among those jumping in
front of Kelleher and the keeper loses sight of it, diving too late and
watching the ball skid past him and into the corner. That’ll settle Villa, who
had been unimpressive.
Villa look relieved by the opener and sweep upfield again,
working the ball right to the overlapping Elmohamady. His cross flicks off
Boyes and loops high into the sky before dropping beyond a helpless Kelleher
and into the corner.
Villa win a 50/50 in midfield and Jota releases
Kodjia, who races through and finishes coolly. Very harsh lesson, this, for
Liverpool’s youngsters.
Villa’s best-worked of the bunch, Elmohamady sliding across
a precise centre and Kodjia applying a clinical finish. This deeply weird game
now stands at 4-0 to Villa.
With the game’s last action Wesley gets his goal! It’s well
taken, running round the ball when sent away on the left of the box, and he’ll
be delighted with that. He hasn’t deserved the stick he has taken.
MY
OPINION
This was a massive lesson that
needed to be learned by the Liverpool academy players and I think that they
have a long way to go to get into the first team side. I think this does give
me hope but only during a strong second half as the first half was a complete
disaster
EVERTON 2-2 LEICESTER
Leicester win 4-2 on
pens
MADISON MIGHT
The visitors did strike two seemingly killer blows not
long after though, as James Maddison sent a fine curling effort past Jordan
Pickford before Jonny Evans poked home from a corner after finding himself
unmarked in the box.
Everton found a lifeline, however, as Tom
Davies cushioned a lovely volley into the corner from about 12 yards after
being found by Richarlison.
A late onslaught by the home side continued, as Leighton
Baines struck a stunning effort into the top corner in added time force
penalties.
MY
OPINION
This seems to be Leicester’s
luck at the moment as they seem to allow a game to get away from them and then
seem to be able to win it when it was needed but Penalties are pot luck and
Leicester do seem to have that at the moment
OXFORD 1-3 MAN CITY
STERLING STINGS
Mahrez moves infield, leaving a ludicrous amount of space on
the right wing for Cancelo to burst into. Burst into it he does, and he keeps
bursting until he reaches the Oxford penalty area. He does in the end run out
of space and ideas, and so lashes in a shot from an unpromising angle, which
takes a convenient deflection off Moore, floats past Archer and in!
Oxford win a free-kick just inside City’s half and take it
quickly, sliding in Taylor on the right. He cuts inside, knocking the ball
through Harwood-Bellis’s legs, and then from 12 yards thumps a left-footed shot
past Bravo!
A gorgeous cross from Angelino on the left, and Sterling
runs between the two centre-halves and taps it in!
Bernardo Silva dinks the ball into the path of Jesus, who
runs down the left and then squares for Sterling, who helps himself to another
tap-in.
MY
OPINION
This shows the class that City
have at the moment and the determination in what they can do. Oxford should
have taken their chance while at 1-1 but City showed that they have the quality
to destroy a team when they need to Oxford can take a lot from this
MAN U 3-0 COLCOLCHESTER
RASHFORD RUNS THE
SHOW
Romero got down low to save from Ryan Jackson and rolled the
ball to Nemanja Matic who swung it 40 yards into the path of Marcus
Rashford. United's leading scorer galloped towards the penalty box and cut
inside Thomas Eastman and Luke Prosser before hammering a shot past goalkeeper
Dean Gerken.
Five minutes later Mason Greenwood got free down the right
and tried to pick out Rashford at the far post, forcing Jackson to put the ball
into his own net as he tried to stop the England international.
And five minutes after that, Rashford turned provider as he
popped up at the far post again to meet Juan Mata's pass and roll the ball back
across goal for Anthony Martial to stretch out a leg and score.
MY
OPINION
This was an easy win against a
weaker side and United did what they had to do in this tie to win it they did look
that bit uncomfortable at times but a major trophy is not an impossible task
this season.

WORLD CLUB SEMIS
MONTERREY 1-2 LIVERPOOL
FIRMINHO ON FIRE
Mohamed Salah
embarks forward and spots the run from Naby Keita. The Egyptian plays a
delicate reverse pass into the midfielder, who converts.
Monterrey are level
in Doha courtesy of Rogelio Funes Mori, who is the brother of former Everton
defender Romiro. Liverpool fail to clear a free-kick before Alisson blocks from
Pabon. The loose ball falls kindly for Mori to convert
The stoppage-time
specialists come up with the goods again to break Monterrey hearts. Mohamed
Salah is the architect when wriggling his way down the right and laying it back
for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who scoops it over for Firmino to flick home.
MY
OPINION
Liverpool seem to have the rub
of the green at the moment as they got another stoppage time goal when you
thought that the points would be dropped or the match would have went to extra
time and this is something good for the Mexicans but it won’t always run like
this they do need to know how to control a match
FLAMENGO 3-1 AL HALIL
PINTO PREFECT
Two minutes later, the Saudi side broke through when, after
a smart pull-back, a low shot from Salem Al Dawsari took a deflection off
Flamengo defender Pablo Mari and flew into the roof of the net.
Yet a switch in formation from their Portuguese coach Jesus
at the break paid instant dividends and they got back on level terms four
minutes after the interval when Uruguayan Giorgian De Arrascaeta tapped in
after a clever cut-back from the impressive Bruno Henrique.
Bruno Henrique then put the Brazilians ahead, meeting a fine
Rafinha cross with a thundering header at the near post.
It was Bruno Henrique who created the third goal, putting
the outcome beyond doubt, as his low cross was turned into his own net by Ali
Albulayhi.
MY
OPINION
This was a very similar game to
the Liverpool match as the Mexican side did have control of the match and could
have won it but they then lost complete control and lost the match because of
it. The Brazilians showed that they have the quality to kill off a match when
it is needed
