17-12-19 PREM WEEK
FA PREMIERE LEAGUE
LIVERPOOL 2-0 WATTFORD
SALAH SINKS IT
The corner was half
cleared towards Firmino, who improvised superbly to volley the loose ball over
his head to Mane. He moved it down the inside-left channel to Salah, who
Cruyff-turned away from Kiko Femenia on the edge of the area and toed a
right-footed curler that drifted into the far corner. Brilliant goal.
Liverpool split Watford open with two fine passes
from Alexander-Arnold and then Oxlade-Chamberlain, who slid the ball down the
inside-right channel to release Mane. He cut it back carefully to Origi, who
made a hopeless mess of his first-time shot. It was bobbling wide of goal when
Salah improvised to flick the ball behind his standing leg and into the net. It
looked like it was going to be disallowed for offside, but eventually the VAR
folk decided his heel was level with Kabasele’s.
MY
OPINION
Liverpool’s run of form goes on
and you do wonder how long that they can keep it for moving forward. Could they
go through the season unbeaten? As for Watford there is some good to take from
it but maybe Liverpool’s eyes were on different things
BURNLEY 1-0 NEWCASTLE
WICKED WOOD
It was from Ashley Westwood's inswinging corner that Wood
rose highest to head the Clarets' winner, although there will be questions over
Martin Dubravka's positioning in the Newcastle goal.
MY OPINION
The win here keeps Burnley not
looking behind them at the moment but I do wonder what is going on at Newcastle
and how well Newcastle are doing this season is being considered a brilliant
sign. I think that right now neither has much to look for
CHELSEA 0-1 BOURNMOUTH
GOSLING IS GREAT
Instead, it was the away side who opened the scoring with
just five minutes remaining. Following a corner, the ball came back into the
area, which Dan Gosling flicked sublimely over Kepa and into the net.
It went to VAR, but the goal stood. The Cherries held on to secure a
much-needed win.
MY
OPINION
I think that there is something
going on with the kids at Chelsea with the young players in their squad not
knowing how to get out of a rut and Lampard only understanding success and how
it is that works I think that Bournmouth have the issue now where they should
still look below them
LEICESTER 1-1 NORWICH
PUKKI PUNCHES
LEICESTER RECORD
A simple but incisive ball from Emiliano Buendia slicing
open Norwich defence, Pukki beating Caglar Soyuncu in a race and chopping the
ball into the bottom corner.
Leicester far from their best, had hit the post after Krul
spilled Youri Tielemans’ 25-yard effort, but that was all they had to show
before Vardy/Krul’s equaliser.
MY
OPINION
A lot of people would have saw
this game as a Leicester win and close to breaking the record for wins for the
club but does this mean that they are on a downward spiral I think not Norwich
can take a lot from it
SHEF UTD 2-0 VILLA
FANTASTIC FLECK
United opened the scoring five minutes after the restart as
Fleck put the finishing touches on a fine team move involving Chris Basham and
John Lundstram.
With 17 minutes remaining Fleck added his second of the game
and fourth of the season with a well-taken strike from close range after being
put through on goal by David McGoldrick's clever flick on the edge of the box.
MY OPINION
United are having a brilliant
season this one while Villa are in some serious trouble and have to try to fix
their problem as soon as they can. I think that both sides can push towards
their goals and achieve them.
SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 WEST
HAM
HALLER HALLA
Sebastien Haller's first goal in more than 10 hours of
football provided a vital winner for West Ham as they won 1-0 at Southampton.
The French striker, recalled to the starting line-up for
Felipe Anderson, turned Pablo Fornals' knock-down in off the far post in the
only goal of the game
MY
OPINION
West Ham needed this win to get
themselves out of a hole and I don’t think that is going to go away any time
soon as the relegation zone is still going to be a threat for them moving
forward. Southampton needed to get something out of this now they could go down
MAN U 1-1 EVERTON
GREENWOOD GAINS GOAL
Baines curls in a brilliant corner, Calvert-Lewin rushes De
Gea who goes weakly with one arm and gets a tiny touch, the ball then hitting
Lindelof and trickling in. That looks a foul on the keeper to me ... but VAR
says no. I’m not sure why, but I am sure that the game can do without chalking
off goals for infractions of that ilk.
Greenwood sprays a lush one out to James, who burrows
infield then returns possession. Greenwood, now central, takes a touch then, using
the defender as a screen, shapes to go far post then drags an expert’s finish
through Mina’s legs and inside the near, Solskjaer-style. Mason Greenwood is a
superstar. It really is that simple.
MY
OPINION
This was a bit of luck as it was
a match that United could have lost very easily this season as they have shown
development to get as far as they have but Everton d9o seem to be having a
massive improvement this week
WOLVES 1-2 SPURS
ERIKSEN ELATES
But with just under ten minutes on the clock, it was the
visitors who took the lead. After failing to clear the danger from a Tottenham
attack, the ball fell to the feet of Moura who broke into the Wolves box –
beyond the outstretched leg of Jonny – before firing a powerful effort beyond
the reach of Patricio and high into the roof of the net.
The host’s dominance finally paid off midway through the
second-half. Jimenez picked up the ball in the Spurs half before laying it off
to Traore on the edge of the visitor’s box, and after a taking a moment to
settle himself, the winger unleashed a rocket of a shot across goal and beyond
Gazzaniga into the corner of the net.
With the game heading to added time, Spurs scored the goal
to secure the three points for the travelling side. Christian Eriksen, who was
only on the pitch a matter of minutes, curled a corner onto the head of
Vertonghen who guided his effort into the bottom right corner of Patricio’s
goal.
MY
OPINION
This result was definitely
unfair on Wolves as I feel they deserve at least a point and they have shown
they are capable in Europe they can push into a strong position but will need
to have that run of form that was needed
ARSENAL 0-3 MAN CITY
DE BRUYNN DELICIOUS
What a brilliant
finish! Fernandinho moved forward from the back and slid a
good, straight pass to Jesus on the left side of the area. He lost Chambers
neatly and cut the ball back speculatively from the byline. It cleared everyone
at the near post and reached De Bruyne at the far post, 15 yards from goal. He
watched the ball bounce, adjusted his body and sidefooted a blistering shot
into the roof of the net. The precision and technique were off the scale.
Almost every other player in world football would have put that over the bar;
most would have put it out of the ground.
Arsenal tried to
press high up the field and City just passed straight through them.
Rodri and Foden were involved at the start, passing their way out of trouble in
their own half. Then De Bruyne played a give-and-go with Jesus and ran at
Chambers on the left side of the box. He drove a low cross that took a slight
deflection, which wrongfooted Kolasinac and allowed the ball to reach Sterling
at the far post. He swept it into an open net from six yards.
The move started
when Foden, who had just switched from left to right, came infield and
played a short pass to De Bruyne. He rolled Guendouzi, moved to the edge of the
D and swept an emphatic curler into the bottom corner with his left foot. It
was another brilliant goal. He used the backpedalling Chambers as a screen and
shaped it beautifully into the corner with his weaker (sic) foot.
MY
OPINION
Man city look incredible at
times this season and this was one of them as arsenal are still not getting it
right in what is needed to fix that club. Man City do rely on Pep and do still
look the best ream in England at the moment
CRYSTAL PALICE 1-1
BRIGHTON
ZAHA ZIPS A PALACE
POINT
It’s fair to say this had been coming. Trossard is found in
acres of space down the right by a glorious Bissouma cross field pass. Trossard
cushions a first-time pass inside for Maupay, who takes a touch on the penalty
spot and lashes a shot into the top right. What a beautiful goal that was.
This had been coming, with Brighton suddenly sitting back.
And they’ve been made to pay for their profligacy by Zaha, who drops a shoulder
to cut in from the left, takes a touch back the other way, and whips an
unstoppable effort into the top left!
MY
OPINION
This was controlling for
Brighton but they needed to win the match but they could not score a goal in the
first half which seriously harms them. Both teams are in mid table I think that
Brighton must be disappointed but still have little to stress about
