rugby warm ups 20-8-19
RUGBY FRIENLIES
NZ 36-0 AUSTRILIA
SEVU MAKES AUSSIES
BLUE
Reece Hodge fumbles the pass on halfway and the fly-half is
on it in a flash, scooping up before going the distance for the opening try.
Barrett picks up on the loose ball and drifts left before
unfurling a tidy pass for Bridge. He turns on the jet shoes down the left
before finding Aaron Smith on his inside, who does the rest.
Sonny Bill has to use some serious force there to get over
the line and he does just that, despite some valiant defence. Real power up the
middle from Ardie Savea in the build up there, too.
Sevu Reece adds his name to the scoreboard! The live-wire
wing zips away down the right, kicking through before finishing in the corner.
Steal, create space, thread together the phases... and over
MY
OPINION
Neither team should look at this
and say that they are perfectly set for the world cup as both have had big
defeats on the build-up and I think this shows the power that New Zeeland can
create but still have a lot to learn
WALES 13-6 ENGLAND
NORTH NIPS IN
England are pinged for offside on their own five metre line,
bang in front and Biggar finally decides to take the points.
Biggar slots it nonchalantly and runs back to his mark
barking orders.
Wales go immediately while England are disorganised, it’s
all the way right via a cross kick to Josh Adams who’s up to five metres out
after a little juggle, Biggar then cross-kicks again, this time left to North
in open pasture to score.
Wales just about win the scrum and Moriarty
brings it away from the base but it’s a penalty for England, which Ford lines
up.
It’s easy for Ford and England are off the mark.
England smartly win the ball off the top of the
lineout and attack through their trademark midfield pattern. Wales give away a
penalty on their own 22 for not rolling away. Ford will take the points here.
It’s bang in front and Ford does the necessary.
Leigh Halfpenny chases and catches his own kick - he’s so
good at this - and then on second phase England are offside on their own ten
metre line. It’s in front of the post and Halfpenny is removing his scrum cap
to have a lash at it.
It sails through as Jarrod Evans replaces Biggar and Owen
Watkin replaces Parkes.
MY
OPINION
This was a big time match and Wales
still seem to have the momentum going forward and are showing that they are
serious contenders for the world cup. For England next week is huge as it will
tell them where they are when they play Ireland at home
SA 24-18 ARGENTENA
NIPPI NKOSI
A scrappy opening 15 minutes were riddled with penalties
before Elton Jantjies kicked over a simple effort from on the Argentina 22 to
give the Boks the lead, but Joaquín Díaz Bonilla levelled from the tee.
Argentina lock Guido Petti showed skill to ease Argentina
into a 10-8 lead
The game needed a moment of brilliance to light up a dour
contest, and the first sniff of a chance for either side all evening saw Nkosi
show wonderful feet and pace to dance past Pumas shirts down the right and dive
over.
Jantjies hit the post with the conversion, which allowed
Argentina to move in front after Guido Petti showed brilliant pace to collect
the ball on the halfway and romp away to score under the posts.
Diaz Bonilla added the conversion, but he was not as
accurate minutes into the re-start, as Nkosi then added his second score by
jinking past three Argentina defenders to continue to light up the encounter.
Benjamin Urdapilleta entered the fray after 55 minutes, and
he immediately reduced the deficit from the tee to make it 15-13, but after
Jantjies re-established the five-point deficit, Pablo Matera ran clear to make
it 18-18 following effective work in the maul.
Jantjies' boot kept the Springboks just with their noses in
front as he added the six crucial points either side of Lucas Mensa's
disallowed try following obstruction from Jeronimo De la Fuente on Vincent
Koch.
MY
OPINION
I think that Argentina are
improving and having he early matches could help both them and South Africa who
are on a roll at the moment and will be going in with high expectations for the
world cup this could again be one that suits the south as they have extra games
FRANCE 32-3 SCOTLAND
RUTHLESS RAKA
The match got off to a frenetic start as the Scots, playing
in a light-blue change strip, were pinned back and broken within the first few
minutes when Aliverete Raka, the Fiji-born wing who was making his France
debut, carved through to go in under the posts.
The French were the better side by a fair margin as the game
unfolded and stand-off Camille Lopez added a penalty
The warning bells were really starting to ring in the 23rd
minute when full-back Maxime Medard got past the defensive efforts of Hawick
pair Stuart Hogg and Darcy Graham to crash over in the left corner.
They did finally get off the mark after 26 minutes when
stand-off Adam Hastings slotted a cleanly-struck penalty.
And that was just about as good as it got from the away
team, as France stretched their lead in what remained of the half to all but
put the game out of Scotland’s reach. The crucial blow was landed in the 33rd
minute when No 8 Gregory Allidritt,
Lopez missed the conversion, but all the same, at 20-3
against them, the match was obviously all but out of reach for Townsend’s side
– especially as their one real bright spell in attack had not come too close to
registering a try.
The scoreboard wasn’t troubled for 15 minutes but when it
was it was effectively game over for the Scots as Medard got on the end of a
slick midfield passing move to beat Hogg and get in the left corner for his
second score.
A poor evening quickly descended into a thumping as the
French No 9 Antoine Dupont scampered over and Lopez added the extras to make it
32-3 with almost 20 minutes still to play.
MY
OPINION
France have this habit of
hitting form at the right time and it does feel like they are hitting form at
the right time and I think that they can just burst into flames both ways and
the saying goes you don’t know what is going to happen to anyone more than
French rugby and it seems to be the point here. It might suit the Irish an out
of form Scottish team
