RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP
AUSTRILIA 16-10
ARGENTENA
HAPPY HODGE
Australia gain 25-30m before earning their first penalty. Again
it’s Kerevi making the key yards. Lealiifano with his first look at points as a
Wallaby. He slots it nicely! It hooked a little to the left, but still
comfortably through the posts.
The outcome of that poor lineout option is an error about
30m out, and the Pumas say: yes please. Sanchez with the successful shot at the
sticks, and we’re all square, despite the Wallabies territorial dominance.
Special stuff! Australia with the feed 10 inside the Puma’s
half and from the set play it’s a fine set piece. Lealiifano with ball in hand,
Koroibete with a great line, Kuridrani and Kerevi the decoys and they’ve
bamboozled Argentina’s defence.
Lealiifano with the conversion, fine strike from near the
touchline. Great well-worked set piece - when’s the last time the Wallabies
have successfully prosecuted one of those?
A quick chat with
Michael Cheika, who’s called on his players to not panic and keep working on
the basics. Particularly around the ruck, but he’s happy with the running lines
from his backs so far, the Wallabies boss.
Lealiifano makes it 3/3 on his return with a tricky chance
about 15m in from the touchline.
Good pressure from the Pumas defence as they
look to put Koroibete under a heap of heat 5m out from his own line, but Genia
with another inch-perfect clearing kick to force the play back to the halfway
line.
A decent kick in reply from the Pumas, who pin Australia 5m
out from their own line and force them to defend a line out throw. But another
Argentine knock-on lets the hosts off.
Lealiifano accurate once again - hardly a foot wrong tonight
on his return, and he makes way for Toomua. Big cheer from the home crowd for
the Brumbies captain. A chance now for Australia to try another halves
combination.
Isa They stack the lineout, 11 men in that, I believe. They
set for the drive, the Pumas and through a sheer weight of numbers they
finally, finally, breach the Wallabies line!
Sanchez with the extras.
MY
OPINION
If Australia can build on this momentum
then the4y can go fa4r in the world cup but they are showing the consequences
around them is not changing their thinking
NZ 16-16 SA
JANTJIES JOY
South Africa dominated the majority of the first half, with
scrum-half Faf de Klerk guiding them around the field expertly but had only six
points to show for all their efforts.
They put extreme pressure on Richie Mo'unga at fly-half,
rattling him with two early charge downs, however it was a frustrating outcome
for the Boks who should have turned their domination into more points.
However, things got worse for the Boks after the All Blacks
took the lead in the 37th minute.
TJ Perenara turned over Duane Vermeulen just outside their
22 allowing Beuden Barrett to show his pace. He beat Lukhanyo Am on the outside
before passing inside to Jack Goodhue to go over
Barrett, who had earlier missed a penalty from the same
position nailed the conversion to give the All Blacks an unlikely 7-6 half-time
lead.
The All Blacks went up a gear in the second half with
Barrett extending their lead with another penalty but neither side could
achieve any continuity - handling lapses and rush defences made it difficult to
move the ball wide.
South Africa were starting to look a bit harried but Pollard
made it 10-9 before two Mo'unga penalties looked to have swung the momentum New
Zealand's way.
owever, in the final move of the game, Willie Le Roux produced
some quick hands to release Kolbe who flew down the wing before chipping ahead.
Jantjies was in support and after a tussle with Aaron Smith dived over for the
try that was rewarded after consulting the TMO.
Pollard then stepped up and, despite missing an earlier
penalty from the same spot, remained calm to secure a dramatic draw.
MY
OPINION
I think that it is a massive
encouragement to SA and going into they would be considered an outside bet for
the world cup itself but both these sides as it is so early should use these matches
to experiment with their squads a bit
