31-5-19 DAY 1 CRICKET WORLD CUP
ONE DAYCRICKET WORLD
CUP
ENGLAND 311-8 50 OVERS
SA 207 39.5 OVERS
SUPER STOKES
Regularly bowling in excess of 90mph, Archer - playing only
his fourth one-day international - took 3-27 and hit Hashim Amla on the helmet
to force him to temporarily retire hurt.
After Stokes took an amazing one-handed catch on the
boundary to dismiss Andile Phehlukwayo, South Africa were dismissed for 207 to
lose by 104 runs.
Stokes earlier made 89 and Jason Roy, Joe Root and Eoin
Morgan hit half-centuries to take England to 311-8, a total that seemed no
better than par.
Quinton de Kock's 68 had South Africa in the hunt at 129-2,
but he pulled Liam Plunkett to long leg to become the first of three wickets to
fall for 15 runs.
When Stokes took two wickets in two balls, the world number
ones and favourites completed an ideal start to the tournament.
MY
OPINION
England had the ability here to
kill of this game and start the tournament 2with a bang and are showing why
they are seen as the best team in the world South Africa will have to take from
this and learn as much as they can
PAKISTAN 105 ALL OUT
WEST INDEES 108-3 13-4 OVERS
GAYLE GETS IT
All 10 wickets fell to seam with the West Indies bowlers
quick and hostile in front of a crowd vociferously in support of Pakistan in
Nottingham.
Oshane Thomas took 4-27, captain Jason Holder 3-42 and Andre
Russell a brilliant 2-4 in three overs as only two Pakistan batsmen passed 20.
Chris Gayle smashed 50 from 34 balls with six sixes to give
West Indies' chase a quick start and, despite three wickets for Mohammad Amir,
the win was sealed with 36.1 overs remaining when Nicholas Pooran smashed a
huge six.
MY
OPINION
This was a game based on perfect
Windies bowling and how they did not even give Pakistan any sort of a shot in
this game whatsoever and if they can keep this type of performance up they could
be seen as serious contenders
