25-2-19 football weekend
FA PREMIERE LEAGUE
BURNLEY 2-1 SPURS
BANG BARNES
Westwood whips the corner in from the right. Wood rises
highest, six yards out, and plants a header flush in the top-left corner! The
ball comes down off the bar and over the line, Lloris with no chance!
Rose steals a couple of yards at a quick throw-in on the
left, in order to set Kane scampering free! He’s got the beating of Mee,
holding his man off as he enters the box. Kane draws Heaton and slips a cute
finish across the keeper and into the bottom right!
But then Aurier faffs about while dribbling upfield,
allowing Gudmundsson to drive into the box from the left. He shoots ... he
scuffs ... but the ball dribbles diagonally towards Barnes, at the far post.
He’s six yards out, and can’t miss!
MY
OPINION
Results like this against mid
table Burnley is why people are saying that Spurs cannot put up a challenge for
the title but the problem here was the fact that they let a point go which
could prove so curtail they have a good team but this killer edge seems to be lost
on them again. For Burnley they now are clear of the relegation zone.
BOURNMOUTH 1-1 WOLVES
JIMENEZ HAS THE LUCK
FOR WOLVES
The hosts took the lead when Mr East correctly decided that
King had been tripped in the box by Joao Moutinho, with the Norway
international doing the rest from the spot for his ninth league goal of the
season.
The man who mattered most disagreed, although the visitors'
protests were calmed when Mr East did point to the spot when Adam Smith -
already on a yellow but not shown a second card - caught Matt Doherty in the
box late on.
Jimenez nonchalantly rolled home the penalty for his 10th
league goal of the campaign
MY
OPINION
This was a very even tie between
two very even teams and how the breaks came or didn’t come were all dependant
on the ref and the decisions that he had made. I think that VAR should be
brought into the Premiere League for matches like this and results like this.
NEWCASTLE 2-0
HUDDERSFIELD
RUNNIN RONDON
Salomon
Rondon, a truly glorious centre-forward, turns provider to flick into the path
of Ayoze Perez, who makes the points safe for Newcastle.
The
Venezuelan colossus finishes through Jonas Lossl’s legs to put the Magpies
ahead. That’s Huddersfield dead and buried, isn’t it.
MY
OPINION
This
is a very good win for Newcastle as it gets them out of that bit of trouble
that they are in at the moment and it would make the fans see survival as a potential
for their future. Huddersfield look down.
LEICESTER 1-4 PALIE
ZAHA ZAMBUZELS
Milivojevic,
to the left of the centre circle, fires a pass forward to McArthur, 25 yards
out, level with the right-hand post. McArthur shoots towards the bottom left.
Perhaps it’s going wide. The ball passes Batshuayi, who sticks out a leg and
diverts it towards the bottom right ... and it’s in, past a wrong-footed
Schmeichel
Maddison
wins a header, flicking on towards Barnes on the right. Barnes fires a low
cross into the mixer. Evans, who had been up for the throw, swivels and slams a
shot into the bottom right! That came out of nothing, because neither side had
been offering much.
McArthur
then drops a shoulder to the left of the D to make himself a little space. He
dinks a cross towards Zaha, who is coming in from the right, totally unmarked.
He meets the dropping ball on the edge of the six-yard box and bashes a
sidefoot past a helpless Schmeichel
Evens puts
out a hand from a Shlupp cross penalty Milivojevic sidefoots powerfully to the
right, Schmeichel having been sent the other way
Maguire,
dozing as he strides upfield, is stripped of the ball by Ayew, who races up the
other end. Ayew slips a pass right for Zaha, who slaps a shot towards the
bottom right. Schmeichel should keep it out, but the power’s too much for him.
MY
OPINION
This
was a very good result for Palace as it pushes them up to mid table in the
league and I think that unless either have a real bad turn both have the
quality to be safe from relegation. Leicester have players that have been at
both a title race and a relegation battle in their squad which could prove curtail
CARDIFF 1-5 WATTFORD
DEULOFEU DELICIOUS
Watford took the lead through Deulofeu. Deeney bundled past
Sean Morrison and Joe Bennett before teeing up the Spaniard to stroke the ball
into the bottom corner.
Deulofeu scored his second of the night just after the hour
mark. A poor free-kick from Bennett was headed straight out to the Spaniard,
who ran from the halfway line and rounded Etheridge to double the visitors'
lead.
Within a couple of minutes, Deulofeu had doubled his entire
goal tally for the season in just one game. A sloppy Harry Arter pass was
intercepted by Etienne Capoue, whose incisive pass was dinked into the bottom
corner by Deulofeu for his hat-trick.
Deulofeu turned provider 10 minutes later as he broke free
into the box and squared to Deeney for a simple tap-in.
Bamba scored a consolation in the 81st minute as he stabbed
in from close range following a goalmouth scramble, before Deeney made it five
with a tidy finish in added time.
MY
OPINION
This was a huge shock result
because Cardiff were struggling for points in the relegation zone and every
point while Wattford are playing to get that 7TH placed and the
possibility of playing in Europe next season but this was a quality performance
and shows sometimes the little gap their can be in te Premiere league
WEST HAM 3-1 FULLHAM
ATLANTIC ANTINIO
Zabaleta also
plays a part in this, losing Sessegnon on Fulham’s left flank. Sessegnon
immediately plays a low, hard cross into the six-yard box, and Babel turns it
in!
Rico comes out to punch clear but
makes a massive hash of it, Antonio heads it back in, it flicks off Ogbonna and
Hernandez turns it in with a combination of head and left arm at the far post!
There’s no quibbling about this
one: a good delivery, a good run, a good leap and a good from Diop header at
the near post!
Arnautovic sets up Lanzini again
but this time his shot is blocked. It rolls back to Arnautovic, who dinks a
cross into the middle of the area, and Antonio heads with more precision than
power, in off the post!
MY
OPINION
Results
like this do not help Fulham’s cause as it does seem like right now they are
already down to the Championship as they are not picking up any big points
needed to survive and I think that this is making their whole bigger and bigger
as for West Ham mid table i=is their destiny
ARSENAL 2-0 SOUTHAMPTON
LOVING LACAZETTE
Lacazette
was given one of the simplest chances he could wish for after six minutes when
Mkhitaryan's half-volley found him unmarked six yards out and he directed the
ball beyond Saints goalkeeper Angus Gunn with a smart flick.
Mkhitaryan
went from provider to scorer 11 minutes later, turning home Alex Iwobi's
deflected cross with a composed finish into the near corner from the right.
MY
OPINION
This
was a solid performance by Arsenal and showed that they can play to that top
level when it is needed. I think that they will push for that top 4 spot as
much as they can. Southampton are in some serious trouble and need to get out
of it
LIVERPOOL 0-0 MAN UNITED
SCOTRLESS DRAW HELPS
NO ONE
Injuries to three midfielders meant United were forced to
use all of their substitutes in a bizarre 25-minute period before half-time
with one of them, Jesse Lingard, quickly being replaced himself.
Liverpool did not escape unscathed, with Roberto Firmino
only lasting until the half-hour mark, and without him his side struggled to
pose any sort of threat in front of goal in what was was a typically intense
encounter.
The constant disruptions made for a disjointed first half
and neither side could truly find their rhythm after the break - although the
lack of quality did not affect the raucous atmosphere throughout.
MY
OPINION
I am not really that sure
whether or not this result helped United after the results for fourth place
seemed to go against them. I think Liverpool need to get a couple of big wins
in order to get themselves back in control asv I feel City have that now
LEAGUE CUP FINAL
CHELSEA 0-0 MAN CITY
city win 4-3 on pens
SMASHING STERLING
City claimed the first major trophy as they chase a historic
quadruple but this stale final, which was goalless after extra time, will be
remembered for an almost unprecedented challenge to Sarri's authority by Kepa.
The £71m Spanish keeper, Chelsea's club record signing, had
been struggling with cramp in the closing stages of extra time and Sarri
decided to send on substitute Willy Caballero, who saved three penalties in a
shootout to help Manchester City win this trophy against Liverpool in 2016.
Kepa refused to come off and Sarri backed down in a rage -
before City won the shootout, with Raheem Sterling scoring the decisive
penalty.
MY OPINION
I would love to know how you put in a performance
like this and lose 6-0 on another it just does not seem in any way right and if
their able to improve that much then you know that anything can happen
