19-2-19 fa cup
FA CUP LAST 16
QPR 0-1 WATTFORD
CAPOUE CREACKER
Holebas’s cross from the left is headed behind for a corner.
Holesbas sends it towards Kabasele at the back post, but Leistner heads it
behind for another corner on the far side. The outswinger reaches Cleverley at
the edge of the box. His mis-hits his volley but the ball runs to Capoue, who
sweeps a low shot through seeral bodies and into the net from 10 yards!
MY
OPINION
This has been a very nervy match
for Watford as they won a match that they felt from the start they deserved to
win. QPR were able to push on but not get that vital chance to get the
equaliser. It actually might help QPR get out of the relegation struggle but Watford
can believe still cas push for 7th in the Prem and the FA cup
BRIGHTON 2-1 DERBY
LOVELY LOCIDIA
Bissouma, who has been Brighton’s most lively player, plays
a one-two with Jahanbakhsh on the left, before drilling a right footed cross
low to the edge of the box. The one man Derby don’t want running on to it,
Knockaert, is the man running on to it … and he curls it low and sweet into
Roos’s bottom left corner with his right foot
He stands his man up and then touches the ball through
Huddlestone’s legs (I think), emerging on the other side with the ball before
curling a wonderful left-footed effort towards the far post that has Roos
stranded. It clatters the post and falls right in front of Locadia, who stabs
home.
Cole knocks the ball into the six-yard box first-time, where
Burn makes a hash of clearing it, poking the ball at Cole, who heads into the
empty goal as Button had rushed out. Well, well, well. Game on!
MY
OPINION
This was too easy and I think
that they let Derby into the game at the end which must be seen as a bit of a
concern. I think that it is for the better for Derby as they push for the play
offs but for Brighton they are solid in mid table which means they can go for
this.
AFC WIMBLENDON 0-1
MILLWALL
WALLICE WINS IT
As Ryan Leonard swung an inviting cross from deep towards
the far post, Wallace was given a free run at the ball to rise and power his
header past Aaron Ramsdale.
MY
OPINION
This season has been a disaster
for Wimbledon so far as it feels like they are already relegated. I think it
will take a few years for them to get back up. Millwall are finding it
difficult in the Championship so the fact that they have got so far must excite
the fans
NEWPORT 1-4 MAN CITY
FANTASTIC FODE
Sané and Jesus play a neat one-two on the left of the
penalty area and Sané races in on goal. Day stands up tall and Sané smashes the
ball at Day, the ball walloping the keeper in the nose and dropping into the
goal behind him.
Foden cleverly flicks the ball over Bennett in midfield and
then delicately dribbles forwards to the edge of the area. Bennett faces him up
but the youngster does a razor-sharp stepover and lashes a shot into Day’s
bottom left corner. Day gets a hand to it, but not a strong enough one.
Poole hoiks a ball forwards, Laporte makes a hash of his
header, trying to head it to Otamendi but finding Amond instead, who stabs a
lovely finish over Ederson and into the net.
The youngster glides towards the edge of the box, cuts on to
his left foot, and hammers a shot into the roof of the net. How dare you score
Newport!
Stones cuts a delicious right-footed pass back into
the box and in behind Newport’s defence for Mahrez, who takes one touch before
rifling home at Day’s near post.
MY
OPINION
Man City showed in this match
that they can kill a team in a few minutes and that they have got players that
people don’t recognise that can kill off a game when it is needed. I think that
City are one to watch for the cup and can use this for their league form. It
has been a surprise that Newport got this far as they are doing so poorly in
league 2 and they might struggle to stay in the division.
BRISTOL CITY 0-1 WOLVES
CAVILARO CORAGAOUS
Coady drove a superb long pass to Doherty, who took it down
on the run and stumbled through Dasilva. Once he was into the area he cut the
ball back carefully to the unmarked Cavaleiro, whose low shot from 12 yards
slithered through Fielding and into the net.
MY
OPINION
To lose a match on a goalkeeping
error I think is a bit unfair. I think that was the difference between winning
and losing the match was that one error. I think Bristol will be happy as they
are pushing for the play offs in the Championship and will need more time.
Wolves are doing brilliantly in the Premiership and I think they can win it
DONCASTER 0-2 PALICE
SCHLUPP SCANDALL
Milivojevic intercepts a pass midway in Palace’s half, then
feeds Schlupp on the halfway line and he drives towards goal. He skips past
one, shifts into space beyond another and fires a low shot across goal from the
left, it takes a slight deflection and goes into the bottom corner.
Marquis chases a big ball over the top but it’s too big, and
goes through to Hennessey
MY
OPINION
The early goal here was what
made the difference and I think that this completely changed the dynamic of the
game. Doncaster had no hope after that and could do little and it was just a
matter of if they could get a second goal. Palace sit in mid table in the
Premiership but still are not safe while Doncaster are pushing for the play
offs in league one
SWANSEA 4-1 BRENTFORD
JAMES JOY
Ollie Watkins broke
the deadlock after being played through by Neal Maupay. The Swans equalised after Bersant Celina's free-kick
went in off Luke Daniels. Daniel James gave the home side the lead with a fine
finish after a great run. Yoann Barbet saw red after bringing down James when
he was through on goal. Celina made his way through a number of
challenges before adding a third. James
teed up George Byers to make it four in the closing stages of the game
MY
OPINION
Brentford have to be disappointed
at the fact that they lost this match considering the fact that they took the
lead. They had control of the game at half time. But it did feel like 2 different
Swansea sides in each half. Brentford are struggling in the Championship which
is why this was a real opportunity. Swansea are mid table in the Premiership
which makes me think a cup run could help
CHELSEA 0--2 MAN U
HAPPY HERRERA
Juan Mata’s at the heart of a neat passing move,
with Chelsea failing to put the playmaker under enough pressure. The
Spaniard finds Pogba on the left and the Frenchman’s given the room to curl a
fine ball into the middle, where Ander Herrera peels away from Marcos Alonso
and heads past Kepa from close range!
Rashford storms down the right, Alonso nowhere to be seen,
and whips a Beckham-esque cross into the middle. This time it’s Pogba making
the goalscoring run, powering on to the delivery, leaping powerfully and
ramming a low header past Kepa, who couldn’t get strong enough hands on the
ball!
MY
OPINION
This was a brilliant win for
United as they beat one of their rivals for fourth place in that race and every
point will be vital. United have shown the form that thyey need to go further
and maybe even win this one for Solsar saying this is his trophy I have a
feeling that it might be.
QUARTER
FINAL DRAW
Swansea City v Manchester City
City will win this easily
Watford v Crystal Palace
This to me is the tie of the
round as I think it is very hard to predict
Wolves v Manchester United
Man U with their run of form
should win this
Millwall v Brighton
This should be a win for
Brighton but the fact it is away from home come make it a lot tighter
