31-1-19 premiere league
FA PREMIERE LEAGUE
ARSENAL 2-1 CARDIFF
LOVIN LACAZETTE
Kolasinac goes down in the area under the challenge of Manga
and Aubameyang makes no mistake from 12 yards.
Lacazatte gets a low shot off. Etheridge gets a foot to it,
but can’t stop it from squeezing inside the post.
Mendez gets one back, but it look like it’s going to be too late
for the Welsh side.
MY
OPINION
This was a very good win for
Arsenal but they must worry about what happened to them to concede the goal
late on even though there was little on it as with the way others are playing
it could be the difference between 4th and 5th in the
league. Cardiff have to be annoyed not to have got the momentum to get a point
as they are 3 points behind 17th now.
FULLHAM 4-2 BRIGHTON
MIGHTY MITROVIC
After bottom club Huddersfield conceded early on,
19th-placed Fulham do the very same. Glenn Murray pouncing on an excellent
cross from Montoya
Fulham fail to clear before Propper loops a hopeful ball
towards the back post, where Murray prods in from close range. Awful defending.
Chambers gets his first goal for Fulham, volleying a sensational
shot into the top corner. That has really livened up the crowd, and two minutes
later Mitrovic is denied an equaliser by a brilliant Duffy challenge.
A remarkable turnaround at Craven Cottage! It’s a bouncing
ball in Brighton’s box, nobody takes the initiative, including Ryan in goal,
and Mitrovic simply rises above three Brighton players and nods the ball into
the net.
It’s Mitrovic again, nodding a Bryan cross past Ryan.
Cairney hits the bar, the ball falls to Babel, who can’t get
it under control, but Vietto stabs it in to give Fulham some breathing space.
Surely even they can’t blow this lead from here.
MY
OPINION
Fulham have to use this result
as a source of rhythm if they are to have any chance of getting out of the
bottom 3 as it was a huge win for them and I think this is not impossible but
as the matches go on it gets harder and harder for them. Fulham might already
be down while Brighton were playing for nothing and you could see it.
HUDDERSFIELD 0-1
EVERTON
RUNNING RICHARDSON
Tom Davies crosses into the box, Richarlison is all alone
six yards out. Lossl made a fine save but Richarlison was there to follow up.
MY
OPINION
A very good win here for Everton
keeps them in mid table but this loss should seal Huddersfield’s fate as they
see like they are already down in the Championship and have no bit that gives
me any hope they can get into the race.
WOLVES 3-0 WEST HAM
JUMINEZ JUMPS
On-loan Benfica forward Raul Jimenez took centre stage late
on, flicking in a second from a Moutinho free-kick before rounding off the
scoring with a deft chip over Fabianski.
Another set piece, another goal for Wolves.Jiminez gets the
final touch
Jiminez finishes off a wonderful counter-attacking move from
Wolves after Obiang has hit pocket picked in the centre circle. Wolves are two
on one going forward, Jota squares it to Jiminez and the Mexican dinks it over
Fabianski.
MY
OPINION
West Ham seem to be on a bit of
a slump at the moment and this was seen on Tuesday as they were demolished as
well as their cup loss at the weekend. I do not think that they can fix what
needs to be fixed before the next game but they have nothing to worry about. Wolves
can dare to dream of European Football and what that could mean for their club.
MAN U 2-2 BURNLEY
LOVELY LINGUARD
Pereria loses the ball on the edge of his own area. Burnley
swarm on him with a high press, Cork nicks the ball, feeds Barnes and the
forward makes no mistake, smashing the ball high into the roof of
Wood glances home a brilliant header from Westwood’s cross.
A clear tug from Hendrick on Lingard. Pogba steps up with
that unmistakeable run-up
Pogba sticks it right
into the top left corner. Cracking penalty.
Young crosses to the back post, United have men over. Heaton
makes a remarkable save from Sanchez’s header, but Lindelof is there to turn
the ball in from a tight angle. Heaton did actually get a hand to the rebound
but it squirmed into the side-netting
MY
OPINION
United have shown in this match
a sense of will that we have not seen from them for a long time as they seemed
to be a different team in the last 5 minutes to the entire match. Burnley
should feel that they should have 3 points and a cushion in the relegation struggle
but they are still in it. If they play like this against lower sides they
should be safe.
NEWCASTLE 2-1 MAN CITY
RHAMPANT RONDON
City could not have got off to a better start when Sergio
Aguero hooked home after only 24 seconds.
The home support erupted in the 66th minute when Salomon
Rondon instinctively fired in after connecting with Isaac Hayden's header from
12 yards out.
And the match turned on its head in the 78th minute when the
Magpies were awarded a penalty after Fernandinho - overplaying at the back -
fouled Sean Longstaff in the area after being robbed of possession.
MY
OPINION
A huge win for the Geordies as
it helps get them out of trouble for the moment and by the way City had been
playing few would have saw it coming. City know they are still within range but
must wonder where a result like this can come from after leading so early.
BOURNMOUTH 4-0 CHELSEA
KING IS KING
King has the ball on the left and plays down the line to
Fraser before setting off towards the box. Fraser passes inside to Brooks, who
pulls the ball back into the path of King, who lashes it into the roof of the
net!
David Luiz’s pass is picked off by Brooks, and when the
Chelsea defender then goes to tackle the Welshman the ball rebounds straight to
King – who gives it right back to Brooks again. He runs to the edge of the
area, turns inside David Luiz and scores with a lovely, low left-footer!
One pass from the right touchline, on the half-way line,
cuts the visiting defence to pieces, Stanislas passes inside, King Converts
Daniels heads in Ibe’s free-kick and Chelsea have been
thrashed!
SOUTHAMPTON 1-1 PALICE
WICKED WARD PROUSE
A corner from the left is played short, chipped back into
the box, headed to Mariappa and his shot is deflected over the bar! The second
corner is played in by Holebas, Lloris hares off his line but gets nowhere near
it and it somehow hits Cathcart’s head, possibly goes off Sanchez, and bounces
slowly into an empty net!
They attack down the left, the ball is pulled back and
Ward-Prowse times his run from deep impeccably and drills a low shot back
across goal and into the corner!
MY
OPINION
Neither team should be satisfied
with this point as a win could push them out of the relegation struggles they
are in at the moment. I think that just trying to get survival has to be seen
as the only factor in the league for both clubs.
LIVERPOOL 1-1 LEICESTER
MAGICAL MAGUIRE
The league leaders take the lead! Like City yesterday,
Liverpool grab an early goal. Mané has the ball outside the area, passes to his
left and runs into the box. The ball is passed inside, backheeled into his
path, and Mané clips a shot across goal and in!
A free-kick on the right is cleared, headed back in and
while three offside Leicester players run upfield Harry Maguire runs from deep,
entirely unmarked, and half-volleys in on the stroke of half-time!
MY
OPINION
Liverpool are going to have to
work on defending set pieces as that was what made them drop this week’s points.
Leicester have shown with their Premiere league title they are a good side and
Liverpool would drop big points you knew that. Monday is going to be very
important to them. As for Leicester an away point against top of the league can
only be seen as excellent can they push on.
SPURS 2-1 WATTFORD
LUSIOUS LLORENTE
Less than two minutes after the restart King has the ball on
the left and plays down the line to Fraser before setting off towards the box.
Fraser passes inside to Brooks, who pulls the ball back into the path of King,
who lashes it into the roof of the net!
Son has equalised for Spurs, who finally make their pressure
count
Spurs take the lead! Llorente, author of the most howlersome
miss of the season earlier this evening, heads home from Danny Rose’s cross!
MY
OPINION
I think that this says to me
that Spurs have a chance of catching the big 2 but at the moment that is all
that it is. They have shown that when they are down they will not go out and
crumble. Watford should be content where they are in mid table as that is a
good finish for the
