FA PREMIERE LEAGUE
WOLVES 4-3 LEICESTER
JUMPIN JOTA
The Portuguese forward Jota had opened the scoring by
prodding home at the back post, with Ryan Bennett heading a second to prompt
chants of ".
Clearly angry in the
opening 45 minutes, the Leicester boss saw his side hit back within six minutes
of the restart - first through Demarai Gray's solo run and finish, and then a
Conor Coady own goal.
But after digging themselves out of trouble, Leicester's
defence was again undone by a Ruben Neves long ball for Jota to power in his
second, only for Wes Morgan to head a late equaliser which appeared to have
earned them a point that had seemed so unlikely for much of the game.
Wolves, who beat Leicester 4-3 the last time this fixture
was played in the top flight at Molineux in 2003, had other ideas and, in a
chaotic finish, Jota won it with Leicester again a mess at the back.
MY
OPINION
This was a match built on one
player scoring goals and being able to destroy the opponent’s in a classic. This
was a huge win for Wolves as both teams are so close in the table at the moment
and both can see Europe as an outside bet.
BOURNMOUTH 2-0 WEST HAM
AKE ACHES AMMERS
Nathan Ake thought he had opened the scoring when he nodded
home Fraser's teasing delivery midway through the first half, but Wilson was
ruled to be in an offside position when the cross came in.
Joshua King sealed
only the Cherries' second win in 10 league and cup games in second-half
stoppage time, firing David Brooks' low cross past the helpless Lukasz
Fabianski.
MY
OPINION
West Ham were pushing for Europe
this season and I think that this could be a big loss in the case of that but
this does keep Bournemouth out of trouble at least for the moment as they look
to survive in the league.
LIVERPOOL 4-3 PALICE
SALAH STRILES
SUPERBLY
Palace who broke the deadlock through Andros Townsend, who
beat Alisson from close range after Wilfried Zaha pulled a cross back.
The hosts came out for the second period with goals on the
agenda, and it took just one minute for Salah to equalise before they went
ahead seven minutes later through Roberto Firmino.
Palace were not down and out just yet, though, and James
Tomkins capitalised on poor defending to head his side level from a corner.
However, a calamitous error by Julian Speroni - making his
first appearance since December 2017 - handed Liverpool an advantage they did
not relinquish again, the visitors' keeper scooping the ball towards his own
net for Salah to poke in from on the line.
MY
OPINION
I think that Liverpool have been
able tom control the game but not put the ball in the net in the first have but
when it came to the second they were lethal. Palace aren’t safe yet and a point
could have really boosted their season but the performance they put in would
probably have beaten anyone outside the top 4.
MAN U 2-1 BRIGHTON
RHAMPANT RASHFORD
Paul Pogba put United in front after winning and then
converting a penalty in the 27th minute.
Marcus Rashford doubled the lead just before half-time with
a beautiful solo goal on his 150th appearance for the club.
Pascal Gross halved the deficit for the visitors when he
scored in off the bar with just over 20 minutes remaining.
MY
OPINION
United look like a team very
difficult to stop at the moment and you do wonder who will have the quality to
do it as every bit of luck is going their way under Solar and you do wonder why
so many ex United players aren’t backing him. Brighton are mid table so there
is nothing to worry about
NEWCASTLE 3-0 CARDIFF
STUNNING SCHAR
The Swiss defender Scahr was only in the side to replace the
injured Ciaran Clark but he took full advantage midway through the first when
he was allowed to run from the right touchline before curling left-footed into
the bottom corner.
Schar's second was more straightforward as he found himself
in the right spot to bundle in Matt Ritchie's corner, becoming the first
Newcastle defender to score two goals in a game since Philippe Albert in 1996.
Ayoze Perez added gloss in injury time from Salomon Rondon's
low cross as Newcastle scored three goals for the first time in the league this
season.
MY
OPINION
This is a huge win for the
Geordies as it gets them out of trouble and it makes you think do they have
another star in the making. The loss put Cardiff into Newcastle’s place in the
relegation zone so they will still have to give it a bit of a fight
SOUTHAMPTON 2-1 EVERTON
WINNER WARD PROUSE
While Southampton had dominated the first period it took a
superb 20-yard effort from James Ward-Prowse, which found the top corner, to
confirm their superiority and illuminate proceedings.
Lucas Digne's toe-poke past his own goalkeeper, Jordan
Pickford, summed up a miserable afternoon for the visitors who had travelled to
the south coast hoping to earn a first league double over Southampton since
2001-02.
While Gylfi Sigurdsson's late effort into the bottom left
corner briefly gave them hope of retrieving a point, Marco Silva's side
generally toiled in attack
MY
OPINION
The Saints had complete control
of this match from the start to the end and Everton were never really in it
until thyey scored their goal at the end. This is a huge win for the Saints as
it will keep them out of trouble for a few weeks but this win was all about
luck
WATTFORD 0-0 BURNLEY
SIMPLE STALEMATE
Both teams had chances to score and the home side could have
taken the lead as early as the second minute but Heaton denied Gerard Deulofeu
with his right foot after the forward went through on goal.
Heaton was called into action once more on the stroke of
half-time when he dived to his right to parry Troy Deeney's crisp side-footed
effort to safety.
Foster was equally impressive at the other end when he
caught Ashley Barnes' header from close range after it skidded off the greasy
surface.
MY
OPINION
Wolves have shown themselves to
be better than this no doubt and I think that that ability not to score inn
matches like this could affect whether or not they will be playing in Europe
next season. As for Burnley this was a big point towards survival
ARSENAL 2-0 CHELSEA
LOVELY LACAZETTE
Alexandre Lacazette put Arsenal ahead in the 14th minute
when he made the most of a poor Hector Bellerin cross with a fine first touch
before turning and beating Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga at his near
post with a fierce strike.
Arsenal's intense pressing hampered Chelsea's ability to
play the ball from the back, particularly in the first half, and the Gunners
deservedly added a second through captain Laurent Koscielny in the 39th minute.
MY
OPINION
This will be a real battle
between Arsenal and Chelsea for the fourth place in the Champions League and
Arsenal have made a huge mark in what their goal is this season. There does
seem to be a few things wrong with Chelsea at the moment motivation being one
of them that need to be fixed but I am not sure if Sarri can do the job
HUDDERSFIELD 0-3 MAN
CITY
SANE SINKS SHIP
But the defending champions went ahead in the 18th minute
when Danilo's long-range effort deflected in off the head of Christopher
Schindler.
First, the Germany forward Sane whipped in a cross for Raheem Sterling to dive
and head in his 12th goal of the season.
Then Sergio Aguero cushioned a header for Sane to run on to
and finish past Jonas Lossl.
MY
OPINION
This shows what Man City can do
to any team at any given time and how they have got the ability to destroy a
team at will. City will be up there at the end and I think they have assured Champions
League football but Huddersfield need a boost fast maybe the new manager will
give it to them.
FULLHAM 1-2 SPURS
WICKED WINKS
Fulham had nine shots on goal in an impressive first half
and took a deserved lead when Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente scored an own
goal.
Spurs responded in
the second period and they drew level six minutes after the interval when Dele
Alli ghosted in behind the Fulham defence to head a pin-point Christian Eriksen
cross past Rico.
And Winks completed the turnaround in stoppage time when he
met substitute Georges-Kevin Nkoudou's cross to break Fulham's resistance.
MY
OPINION
This was a good win for Spurs
but they were lucky to get the win here as I see it Fulham deserved a point and
played very well. I think that Spurs need a boost from somewhere and this could
be a catalyst for Fulham
