LEAGUE CUP QUARTERS
MAN CITY 1-1 LEICESTER 3-1 pens
DE BRYNE GIVES CITY
DE LUCK
Pep Guardiola's side took the lead in the first half through
Kevin de Bruyne's first goal of the season - a sweet low drive into the bottom
corner.
Leicester were poor in the opening 45 minutes but regrouped
at half-time and levelled the contest through Marc Albrighton's well-struck
effort
A low-quality shootout saw the home side miss three
penalties while a dinked attempt went wrong for England's Raheem Sterling
before Ukraine left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko emphatically thumped the decisive
kick into the top corner to send his side through.
MY
OPINION
This is a game that all City
fans would have expected to be done in the 90 minutes but City have shown to
have that little bit of luck at the moment and that showed on the day. This
result was not about quality in any way. For Leicester to do so poorly in a
shootout is saying something and I think there is a sense that they might have
deserved the loss.
BORO 0-1 BURTON
HAPPY HESKETH
Burton took the lead just three minutes after half-time. The
initial opportunity fell to Jamie Allen, who saw his effort rattle the base of
the post, but Hesketh was there to pick the ball up before turning to fire home
from just inside the box.
MY
OPINION
This was a bad loss for Boro as
they would have thought they would have reached the semis after getting such a
good draw. They are doing ok in the Championship so little has to change for
the moment. Burton are not doing so well in league one so they know a 2 legged semi-final
can only help them
