FA PREMIERE LEAGUE
SATURDAY
BRIGHTON 1-0 EVERTON
LUCIOUS LOCIDIA
Jurgen Locadia's
second-half goal proved decisive as Brighton beat Everton to end 2018 with
another win at the Amex Stadium.
The Dutchman's strike just before the hour mark came after
Toffees midfielder Andre Gomes inadvertently diverted the ball into his path
from a corner.
MY OPINION
A match which possibly might
mean that Everton can play with a sense of comfort as neither team are really
playing for anything at the moment. I think that Brighon must be happy with how
Locado played
LEICESTER 0-1 CARDIFF
CHAMP CAMARASA
Victor Camarasa's stunning injury-time strike gave the
Bluebirds their first away win of the season.
Against the run of play, the midfielder curled home a
25-yard shot which sailed into the top corner over a flailing Kasper
Schmeichel.
MY
OPINION
This was a definite surprise in
the game as I felt that Leicester deserved to get the win here in this match.
This game could be a huge momentum swinger for Cardiff as they get themselves
out of the relegation hole that they are in
WATTFORD 1-1 NEWCASTLE
DIER DOUCOURE
It’s a lovely cross from the left, and Rondon jumps
between two defenders at the far post to head in!
It’s all going on! A cross from the right, and Doucouré
rises at the far post to head it in!
MY
OPINION
For Newcastle this is another
vital point in their fight against relegation. For Watford a push for a
European spot this result will not help. This does give me that bit of hope for
the Geordies as this was a big away win.
SPURS 1-3 WOLVES
BRILL BOLY
Wolves give the ball away in midfield, Kane runs down the
right, then he cuts inside and from 25 yards unleashes a left-foot wonderstrike
that screams inside the far post!
Davies heads the ball out for a corner. Moutinho takes it
from the right, and Boly thumps in a header that Lloris gets his right hand to
but can’t keep out!
Wolves take the lead at Wembley! Raul Jimenez gets the ball
just outside the area, carries it into the box, and then shoots between
Alderweireld’s legs and, though there’s not a lot of pace on the shot, it goes
between the post and Lloris’s flailing arm!
Costa is played in on the right of the area, opens his
body and rolls it across the goal and in with the inside of his left foot!
MY
OPINION
Wolves are showing themselves to
be a big team in this race as I thought that this would be an easy win for
Spurs who would then be in a place to chance Liverpool. Wolves have to set
their target now on finishing 6th and a place in Europe.
LIVERPOOL 5-1 ARSENAL
FABULAS FIRMINHO
Arsenal took the lead after only 11 minutes when Ainsley
Maitland-Niles slid in at the far post to score from Alex Iwobi's cross - but
it was a false dawn for Unai Emery's side.
Firmino took advantage of Arsenal's defensive confusion to
quickly equalise then slalom past a posse of defenders to put Liverpool in
front after Lucas Torreira lost possession, all in the space of two minutes.
Sadio Mane extended Liverpool's lead after 32 minutes when
Andrew Robertson's long cross exposed Arsenal after they needlessly conceded a
corner.
Mohamed Salah then effectively ended the contest from the
penalty spot in first-half stoppage time, having been fouled by Sokratis.
Liverpool cruised to close out the win in the second half,
Firmino completing his hat-trick from the spot after 65 minutes following Sead
Kolasinac's push on Dejan Lovren.
MY
OPINION
This was a win that kept
Liverpool in complete control of their hopes at this stage. They are also not
the most relent on one player to do a job and that the big clubs don’t surprise
the reds. As for the Gunners this was a massive shock which few saw coming.
SUNDAY
PALICE 0-1 CHELSEA
KICKIN KANTE
Kante scored the only goal of the game in the 51st minute
when he broke forward from midfield to convert David Luiz's throughball.
MY
OPINION
I think that Chelsea are playing
for fourth place and this win shows that they have got the quality to do so. Palace
are going back into the relegation dogfight which I think makes this seen as a disappointment
but losing to such a big side no shocks there,
BURNLEY 2-0N WEST HAM
MC NEIL MAKES NAME
Chris Wood put Burnley in charge with a right-footed finish
from the left of the penalty area to conclude a sweeping move involving Heaton,
Ashley Westwood, McNeil and Ashley Barnes.
And with the hosts repeatedly carving through the visitors,
they pressed home their advantage before the interval, when 19-year-old McNeil
turned in Westwood's cross at the far post.
MY
OPINION
For Burnley this win was curtail
as it keeps their survival hopes alive as they are able to look at this with
such seriousness. As for West ham I am not sure if they care they just want
their home to be a fortress
SOUTHAMPTON 1-3 MAN
CITY
SUPER SILVA
Southampton responded to David Silva's early opener when
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg took the ball off Oleksandr Zinchenko and fired it into
the top corner.
City had luck on their side when Raheem Sterling's shot
deflected off James Ward-Prowse to make it 2-1.
Sergio Aguero's back-post header completed the scoring
before half-time.
MY
OPINION
Man City are not going to let
their title go at any stage and I think that have still got the fight we saw
here. Southampton are now going to have to look at a way to try to get
themselves out of the hole they are in as they had a horrible second half with
10 men
