FA PREMIERE LEAGUE
WEEKEND 10
BRIGHTON 1-0 WOLVES
MURPHY MANAGEMENT
Murray, who was a doubt for the game after suffering
concussion last weekend, turned Bruno's scuffed shot in from close range
shortly after half-time.
MY
OPINION
What was said in the dressing
room at half time in that match is what changed it for sure and changed if
towards Brighton as they were able to learn from the first half what was needed
in order to control the match.
FULLHAM 0-3 BOURNMOUTH
WACKY WILSON
Timothy Fosu-Mensah barged Wilson over in the box. The
Bournemouth striker dusted himself off to send debutant Rico the wrong way in
the 14th minute.
With the hosts chasing the game in the 72nd minute, Brooks
made the most of the extra space in the final third, latching onto a pass from
Ryan Fraser and slotting the ball between Rico's legs.
Wilson was another to enjoy the space on offer to
Bournemouth's attackers, especially when they had the one-man advantage, as he
ran beyond the defence to get onto the end of another Fraser pass and fire
powerfully beyond Rico from 12 yards.
MY
OPINION
This game was much too comfortable
and Bournemouth did themselves a dis service as we know that they can put up
more of a fight than this. I think thyey have to learn why this happened and
try to fix the defensive errors as soon as they can
LIVERPOOL 4-1 CARDIFF
MAGNIFICO MANE
A hacked near-post clearance from Bamba presents Mane with
the intial opportunity, but his shot on the turn is blocked. Another Cardiff
body gets in the way of Firmino's follow-up but it is third-time lucky for the
Reds as Salah swoops in to thrash home from close range.
Mane easing the nerves that were starting to surface
around Anfield. It looked as though the Senegalese had lost his shooting chance
when he was dispossessed on the edge of the box, but he grafts to win the ball
back before blasting a left-footed rocket through Etheridge who seemed to be
taken by surprise by the power behind the effort.
Hoilett and Reid exchange a slick one-two down the right but
the cross into the box is little more than hopeful. Van Dijk stretches out a
leg and accidentally diverts it into the path of Paterson who prods the ball
home from the six-yard line!
The Swiss brings a fierce pass from Salah under control
brilliantly, and his next couple of touches are just as good as he wriggles
away from two defenders and slots into the bottom corner.
The Senegalese starts the move off before passing the ball
onto Salah and continuing a run which the Egyptian finds with a
defence-splitting pass. The finish is a delicate lift over Etheridge. Ruthless
stuff.
MY
OPINION
This is what Liverpool can do
but I do wonder sometimes why they do not do this on a more regular basis. I
think that they have the potential to do damage but more often than not just get
over the line and with the form that City are in I think they might drop too
many points. As for Cardiff they are in the relegation zone so this should be
seen as a football lesson.
SOUTHAMPTON 0-0
NEWCASTLE
NOTHING THERE
Saints midfielder Mario Lemina went closest to breaking the
deadlock midway through the first half but his clever flick struck the post as
Mark Hughes' side failed to register a first home win of the campaign.
The hosts had the better chances to win the game, however
Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka produced a string of fine saves to preserve
his clean sheet and end Newcastle's run of three consecutive league defeats.
MY
OPINION
This was a bad match but it does
not really say to me that Newcastle have got enough going forward to get
themselves out of the whole that they are in and it is not good for Southampton
either as they are pushed towards the relegation zone.
WATTFORD 3-0
HUDDERSFIELD
PERFEECT PEREYA
Pereyra slotted home following a mazy run into the Terriers'
box, before Deulofeu thumped past Jonas Lossl from a tight angle to double the
hosts' lead.
Isaac Success added a third for Watford late on to secure a
comfortable victory for Javi Gracia's men.
MY
OPINION
This was too easy a win for Watford
and very little can be learned from a win like this as the team seem to going
in the right direction. Huddersfield are I a crisis at the moment and it has to
be fixed soon or this will be at the end of the season. There is a lot to sort
out there.
LEICESTER 1-1 WEST HAM
NIPPI NDIDI
Centre-back Fabian Balbuena had put the visitors in the
lead, reacting first to the rebound from his own header, to prod home after 30
minutes.
Just eight minutes later Noble was shown a straight red card
for a high, lunging tackle on Wilfred Ndidi.
With the Hammers poised to take all three points, Ndidi's
long-range shot took a wicked deflection off Balbuena to beat Fabianski.
MY
OPINION
This was a very lucky point for Leicester
and it could be the thing that gives them momentum to push forward in the
league. West ham have to be angry that they lost the game as late as this could
have been a point gained.
BURNLEY 0-4 CHELSEA
BA BA BARKLEY
Barkley set up the visitors' 22nd-minute opener, sliding a
wonderful through ball for Alvaro Morata to poke past Burnley keeper Joe Hart.
He then scored himself, sending a 25-yard shot into the
bottom corner of Hart's net just before the hour mark.
Five minutes later, he registered his second assist of the
match, as he set up Willian, to cut in on to his right foot and curl a shot
past Hart into the same corner.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who scored a midweek hat-trick in the
Europa League, added a fourth in injury time to seal the win.
MY
OPINION
This was much too easy a win for
Chelsea and you do just wonder with a result like this how far they can go. I
do now think that they have to be seen as title contenders or at the very least
challenging for the Champions League spots.
CRYSTAL PALICE 2-2
ARSENAL
MASSIVE MILIVOJIC
There is a bit of pinball in the box and eventually Mustafi
slides in to take Kouyate from behind to give away a pen. Milivojevic steps up and sends Leno to
the right
Palace tried to play their way out of danger and Milivojevic
was beaten to the ball by Torreira on the edge of the area, resulting in the
Palace midfielder gaining revenge by fouling the Uruguayan. Xhaka smashes a free-kick
from the left-hand edge of the area across Hennessey and into the top corner.
He struck that very well!
All a bit silly from Palace to bring that needless pressure
on themselves and they were punished in the worst way possible. Xhaka swings in a free-kick which was
flicked to the back post via Lacazette’s hand and Ayew head, before arriving at
Aubameyang at the back post, from where he stabbed it home, which just made it
over the line.
Meyer attempts an overhead kick but misses the ball,
allowing Arsenal to clear and instigate a counterattack, which breaks down
in the Palace box.
The Palace run down the other end, with Zaha being taken
down by Xhaka in the box for another penalty. The Palace skipper smashes
the ball just a few inches above Leno’s left hand as he dives to his right to
level the scores.
MY
OPINION
I don’t think that anyone saw
this result coming as Arsenal were on such a roll and they did look unbeatable and
palace seemed to have the luck in order to get the point but luck can change a
game and I think that that is what happened here with both penalties.
MAN U 2-1 EVERTON
PRECISE POGBA
The hosts went ahead through Paul Pogba's fortuitous strike
- making a stuttering 26-step run-up to take a penalty that was saved by Jordan
Pickford, then tucking home the rebound when it fell straight back to him.
Pogba fed fellow Frenchman Anthony Martial to curl in a
delightful, first-time finish from the edge of the box in the second half.
Everton, whose three-game winning run came to an end, had
chances of their own but Bernard hit the side netting after going round David
de Gea and the Spain goalkeeper saved sharply from Richarlison's low strike.
MY
OPINION
Is Pogba getting back to form or
is this simply what he can do when let loose I am not sure yet but that is the
main question to me that needs to be asked right now as the amount of money is
large and he may be beginning to repay it
SPURS 0-1 MAN CITY
EMOTIONAL MARHEZ
Former Leicester City forward Mahrez, who swept home Raheem
Sterling's sixth-minute cross, dedicated his goal to Foxes owner Vichai
Srivaddhanaprabha, who was killed in a helicopter crash at the King Power
Stadium after Saturday's game
MY
OPINION
I do not think that this game
should have been won by a former Leicester player but I never really saw too
much of Spurs as in the second half Man City were able to simply kill off the
game with playing possession football.
