UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE
GROUP L
CHELSEA 3-1 BATE
LION LOFTUS CHEEK
Davide Zappacosta picking out Loftus-Cheek, who met the
cross from 12 yards out before stroking it home.
Loftus-Cheek soon doubled Chelsea's advantage, turning in
Willian's corner from inside the six-yard area, stealing ahead of team-mate
Olivier Giroud.
After the break, Loftus-Cheek started and finished an attack
to complete his hat-trick, picking out Pedro before latching onto the loose
ball and tucking an effort beyond goalkeeper Denis Scherbitski, who should have
done better with the strike from 18 yards out.
Chelsea were hardly tested all night defensively, but they
did go to sleep in the 79th minute, allowing Rios to tap in unmarked from a
free-kick.
MY
OPINION
This has but the young forward
up in the stratosphere and you do wonder now whether he will succeed or fail. I
think that Chelsea can learn a lot from this game and maybe they have developed
a new young talent something they are not famous for. Bate should feel a little
disheartened but know that they can still get out of the group.
SALONIKA 0-2 VIDI
HUSZTI HAUNTS
Szabolcs Huszti left
footed shot from the right side of the six yard box to the centre of the goal.
Assisted by Loic Nego.
Stopira header from
the right side of the six yard box to the bottom right corner. Assisted by
Szabolcs Huszti with a cross following a corner.
MY
OPINION
This win keeps this group interesting
to say the least and anyone still has got the shot at second place. Salonka
must have seen this as a match where they could get at least a point from and
for that reason be very annoyed with themselves.
GROUP B
RED BULL SALZBERG 3-0
ROSENBERG
DABBER THE DESTROYER
One of these Lainer crosses was headed by Munas Dabbur in the 34th
minute into the opposing
goal and thereby gave us a highly deserved lead.
Hannes Wolf made
it 2-0. He bamboozledan opposing defender
after Dabbur had knocked the ball to him in
the Rosenborg penalty area and shot clinically through the legs of goalie Andre Hansen.
Just six
minutes later, Munas
Dabbur made it 3-0 from
the penalty spot after Amadou Haidarawas fouled
MY
OPINION
This was much too easy for
either team to learn anything about what is going on at their club but it definitely
put Salzbeerg in a very strong position.
LEIPZIG 2-0 CELTIC
SWINGING SABITZER
Sabitzer swings in a cross from the right that is missed by
both Kouassi and Boyata. It goes through to Cunha and he fires in from 12 yards
out.
Gamboa misses a sliding tackle down the right, allowing
Saracchi to run clear. His cross takes a couple of deflections and then falls
kindly for Bruma to fire past Gordon.
MY
OPINION
This was the match for Celtic that
right now will probably define their season and just make you think should
Rodgers still be in charge. As for the Germans they can look at this and be
very excited that they are an improving team and might have done enough to move
on.
GROUP E
SPORTING LISBON 0-1
ARSENAL
WINNER WELLBECK
Coates mis-controls a long ball from Torreira, Welbeck
pounces, runs through on goal and powers a low finish between Ribeiro’s legs!
Great finish from Welbeck, but that was a shocking error from Coates
MY
OPINION
To lose a game like this is very
unfair on the losing side as the match was very close and maybe deserved to be
a draw. For the Gunners they can be very happy but for Lisbon is has to be
about the might have been.
QARABAG 0-1 VORSKLA
POLTAVA
KULACH QUACKS
Vladyslav Kulach right footed shot from outside the
box to the bottom right corner. Assisted by Nicolas Careca.
MY
OPINION
This result has ruled out any
chance of Quarbag reaching the last 32 but does mean that Poltava have to win
their game at home to stand any chance and as it is at home I do think that
they have g9ot a real chance of doing so.
GROUP G
RANGERS 0-0 SPARACK
MOSCOW
GOALLESS DRAW KEEPS
RANGERS ON TOP
Steven Gerrard's side struggled to convert their dominance
as they bossed the play against the Russians.
Alfredo Morelos, Daniel Candeias and Eros Grezda spurned
opportunities for the hosts during a dominant display.
MY
OPINION
This was for me the first chance
for Steven Gerard to learn what the words moving up a level means and he succeeded
in what he want to do I a big way. I think they have the potential to get out
of this group and maybe even challenge for the title.
VILLAREAL 5-0 RAPID
VIENA
FORNALS FORWARD
Pablo Fornals right footed shot from the centre of the box
to the centre of the goal. Assisted by Karl Toko Ekambi.
Karl Toko Ekambi right footed shot from the centre of the
box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Pablo Fornals with a headed pass.
Own Goal by Mateo Barac, SK Rapid Wien.
Raba left footed shot from the centre of the box to the
bottom left corner. Assisted by Karl Toko Ekambi.
Gerard Moreno left footed shot from the left side of the box
to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Samuel Chukwueze following a fast break.
MY
OPINION
Very little can be learned here
from either team but offensively the Spanish team were incredible and have the
quality to win the cup no doubt but it is whether or not they can do thing on
bigger occasions that matter.
