3-11-17 Europa league home teams
UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE
GROUP E
LYON 3-0 EVERTON
TRAORE ON TOP
Former Chelsea player Bertrand Traore opened the scoring in
the 68th minute when he outpaced the Everton backline and slotted past Jordan
Pickford.
Their second came 14 minutes from time when substitute
Houssem Aouar threaded his shot past the reach of the England goalkeeper, who
was already spread out on the turf having saved from Mariano Diaz in the
build-up.
It went from bad to worse for the visitors when they were
reduced to 10 men after Morgan Schneiderlin received a second yellow for a foul
on Maxwel Cornet.
And with two minutes remaining former Manchester United
midfielder Memphis Depay, who set up the strike for Aouar, applied the final
blow when he headed in the third from six yards.
MY
OPINION
Everton seem to be on a downward
spiral at the moment and there seems to be very little that can be done to sort
thaqt out. Lyon look good and might be a difficult opponent to meet in the
knockout stages.
APPOLIN LIMOSOL 1-1
ATALANTA
ZELAYA SAVES DAY FOR
LIMOSOL
Penalty
Atalanta. Josip Ilicic draws a foul in the penalty area.
Penalty
conceded by Alef (Apollon Limassol) after a foul in the penalty area
Giorgos
Vasiliou (Apollon Limassol) is shown the yellow card.
Goal!
Apollon Limassol 0, Atalanta 1. Josip Ilicic (Atalanta) converts the penalty
with a left footed shot to the top right corner.
Goal!
Apollon Limassol 1, Atalanta 1. Emilio Jose Zelaya (Apollon Limassol) header
from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by João Pedro.
MY
OPINION
This
win keeps things interesting between Atlanta and Lyon in this group but the bad
results for the smaller teams are cutting them off and both sides know that a
win will put them through to the last 32. Lyon should be better than this.

GROUP H
KOLN 5-2 BATE
GREAT GUIRASSY
Koln made the perfect start when Simon Zoller raced clear to
finish with aplomb past Denis Scherbitski. Bate turned the game on its head
with two goals in two minutes. Nemanja Milunkovic equalised after a well worked
set-piece routine, before Mikalay Signevich found the bottom corner with a
stunning overhead kick.
Yuya Osako, on as a substitute for Christian Clemens, scored
a lovely equaliser, before Sehrou Guirassy curled in a free-kick to put Cologne
back into the lead.
Milos Jojic, to put the gloss on a fine evening's work by
heading in Osako's cross.
MY
OPINION
This was definitely a disappointment
for BATE as they should not be allowed to concede that many goals in a match
and if they conceded that many goals they would have some serious problems in
the long run
ARSENAL 0-0 RED STAR
DRAW KEEPS ARSENAL
IN CONTROL
The game's best chance fell to midfielder Jack Wilshere, but
his shot from close range was cleared off the line.
Serbian side Red Star had opportunities themselves, but
striker Richmond Boakye could not hit the target with efforts in each half.
MY
OPINION
A good win draw for Arsenal
keeps them in control of their own fate and it makes it so no one else should
be able to catch them but nothing is sealed yet. A problem here is that some
teams might see them as beatable in the knockout stages with this draw.
