MLS PLAY OFFS
NEW YORK RED BULLS 4-0
CHICARGO FIRE
WRIGHT PHILLIPS
STARTS CHICAGO MESS
Bradley Wright-Phillips started proceedings early in the
seventh minute after receiving a chipped through-ball from Damien Perrinelle.
The Englishman failed to get a touch initially but, after a misplay by Fire
goalkeeper Matt Lampson, he was able to finish into an empty net. The goal was
his eighth all-time in the MLS Cup Playoffs, moving him into a tie for tenth
all-time.
Sacha Kljestan added a goal of his own just four minutes
later after Tyler Adams was able to sneak a cross on the ground into the box.
Daniel Royer added a third in the second half to put the
match away after a Dax McCarty turnover in the midfield. Gonzalo Veron provided
the capper after Kljestan put him in 1v1 against Lampson. The Argentine chipped
his shot over the onrushing 'keeper to put the Red Bulls up four.
MY
OPINION
New York are a step ahead at
this moment in time and the fact that an Englishman was the player that made
the difference in this match does excite me as it says that English players can
do well abroad as much as every player in the Premiership.
VANCOVER WHITECAPES 5-0
SAN HOSE EARTHQUAKES
MEZQUIDA DELAY DOUBLE
Cristian Techera's 33rd-minute corner kick found Kendall
Waston for a header at the top of the 6-yard box; the shot angled right, where
it met Montero's dive head-on for the eventual game-winner. Techera added an
upper-90 free kick in the 57th, Waston slammed home a rebound shortly after to
ice the victory, and Nicolas Mezquida capped everything with a two-minute brace
after subbing on in the 68th.
MY
OPINION
Another disaster result and saying
that the weaker teams are not as good as the stronger sides but the Earthquakes
must look back at this match for next season as if they do not them they will
go backwards you can be sure of that.
ATLANTA UNITED 0-0
COLOMBUS CREW Columbus win 3-1 on pens
STEFFEN SAVES CREW
Atlanta 'keeper Brad Guzan made a few big saves of his own,
including one on Pedro Santos in the first half. Michael Parkhurst cleared a
Harrison Afful header off the line in the 118th minute to ensure the match went
to a penalty shootout.
Crew SC goalkeeper Zack Steffen made eight saves during the
first 120 minutes, some of the spectacular variety, and he came up with two
huge saves in the shootout against Julian Gressel and Leandro Gonzalez Pirez.
Penalty-Kick Shootout
ATL: Julian Gressel - SAVE
CLB: Federico Higuain - GOAL
ATL: Leandro Gonzalez Pirez - SAVE
CLB: Kekuta Manneh - SAVE
ATL: Hector Villalba - GOAL
CLB: Niko Hansen - GOAL

MY
OPINION
There will be this sense with
the Crew that they don’t deserve the win and I do have a feeling that this can
change the way the next round will go I wonder where the Crew will be able to
get this match out of their mind and get it and be able to forget it.
HOUSTON DYNAMO 1-0
SPORTING KC
ELASTIC ELIS
It took extra time – and a few extra touches – but Alberth
Elis struck in the 94th minute to put the Houston Dynamo past Sporting Kansas
City in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs Knockout Round.
Elis took a centering pass from Vicente Sanchez, tapped
twice to set up a third-time-charmer and send Houston to the Western Conference
Semifinals, where they'll take on the top-seeded Portland Timbers.
MY
OPINION
This was a tight match settled
by a good goal and they now would believe that they have a chance of winning
the cup but the extra time can harm them going forward especially after playing
in midweek. Sporting KC must be gutted but can look back at their season with a
sense of joy.
