FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP
LAST 16
CHELSEA 2-1 EVERTON
LATE WILLIAN GOAL
MADE THE DIFFERENCE
Willian scored the decisive second as Chelsea advanced to
the quarter-finals but they were pushed to the final whistle by the rejuvenated
visitors.
Chelsea had contained Everton with ease in the first half
and led through Antonio Rudiger's looping header.
But the Toffees were sharper after the break as Kevin
Mirallas had a shot well saved and Ademola Lookman hit the bar.
Willian drilled a superb low finish home in stoppage time
before Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted a consolation.
MY
OPINION
A win here would have done more
good for Eveerton as the teams in the Champions League consider this tournament
a bit of a distraction. Chelse did show in this match that they have the class
needed to compete with the 2 Manchester clubs. As for Everton they are in the
relegation zone and would have targeted the league cup as something to get them
out of the rut that they are in
SPURS 3-2 WEST HAM
KANE LAST MINUTE
GOALS SAVE SPURS
20-year-old midfielder Harry Winks had equalised for
Tottenham on his full Premier League debut, but Lanzini's penalty - awarded
after Vincent Janssen pulled back Winston Reid in the area - put West Ham back
in the driving seat before Kane intervened.
Michail Antonio's first-half header and a Manuel Lanzini
penalty had put West Ham 2-1 up and seemingly on course for only a fourth
league win of the season, but Kane's late show emphatically turned the contest
on its head.
First the England striker turned home from close range after
good work down the left by substitute Son Heung-Min, while two minutes later
the South Korean was brought down in the area by Havard Nordtveit and Kane
tucked away the resulting spot-kick.
MY
OPINION
This is something that you have
to learn how to do and that is getting a victory from the jaws of a defeat and
Spurs seem to be improving now and I would not be shocked if they got their
form back and went to to attempt to win the next season at Wembley or white
Harte lane but it is too soon. As for West Ham they must be depressed right
now.
