24-10-17 LEAGUE CUP
LEAGUE CUP LAST 16
ARSENAL 2-1 NORWICH
NKEITIAH GIVES
ARSWEN LIFELINE
Norwich had taken the lead when James Maddison's pass
released Josh Murphy, who dinked a shot past Gunners debutant goalkeeper Matt
Macey.
Those misses proved crucial as Nketiah grabbed a late
equaliser from close range only 15 seconds after coming on to leave it level
after 90 minutes.
The England Under-19 international then headed in from
Mohamed Elneny's corner for the winner.
MY OPINION
This result makes me thing the
cup is destined to win as they scored in the last possible minute with a youth
player and they might have found a gem but will they loan him to death as that
is what some big clubs do. Norwich have had their chances during the match to
win it but could not take them and that is something needed to work out in training.
BOURNMOUTH 3-1 BORO
AWSOME AFOBE KILLS
OFF BORO
Cherries debutant Jack Simpson put the hosts ahead four
minutes into the second half as he hooked in a volley from six yards out after Ryan
Fraser's left-wing corner.
Middlesbrough, equalised seven minutes later when Marcus
Tavernier converted after a fine run and pass from Adama Traore.
But Wilson, playing his first game after a serious knee
injury, put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot after Dael Fry had fouled
Simpson in the area.
The Premier League team sealed the victory when Benik Afobe
slid in a third from close range after Wilson's low cross.
MY
OPINION
With the problems that they are having
in the Premiere league Bournmouth need a cup run and we do know how a cup run
can bring confidence into a team within a matter of a win. Boro would have had
ambition to have taken Bournouth to extra time but they can learn lessons for
their league season.
BRISTOL CITY 4-1 PALICE
BRILLIANT BRYAN
Palace, bottom of the table, had taken the lead at Ashton
Gate through Bakary Sako's low finish following Ruben Loftus-Cheek's clever
pass.
But two goals in five minutes before half-time turned the
tie on its head, as an awful mistake by Patrick van Aanholt let in Matty Taylor
to equalise before substitute Milan Djuric pounced after a long throw by Iceland
defender Hordur Magnusson.
Defender Joe Bryan's unstoppable shot made it 3-1 before
Callum O'Dowda completed Palace's misery from outside the area.
MY OPINION
Bristol City is a team that I do
not pay that much attention to as they do not push for the play offs so to them
this must be considered a massive success. For Palace it goes from bad to worse
and the new manager will have to go back to square 1 in order to achieve
anything.
LEICESTER 3-1 LEEDS
SUPERB SLIMANI
Pablo Hernandez put Leeds ahead with a stunning 20-yard shot
that flew in off the bar, but Leicester levelled through Kelechi Iheanacho's
first goal since a £25m move from Manchester City.
Islam Slimani knocked in Iheanacho's cross for a deserved
Foxes lead.
Substitute Riyad Mahrez cut inside to fire in as Appleton
earned his second win since replacing Craig Shakespeare.
MY
OPINION
Leicester seem to be doing ok at
the moment and this win backs that up they are where they should be in mid table
and after what happened a couple of seasons ago the fans seem not to be able to
accept this. There still would be an out with the Leeds fans that they are not
in the top division and that they are not spending money like the big clubs.
SWANSEA 0-2 MAN UTD
LOVELY LINGARD
A much-changed United side controlled the tie and led at half-time as Marcus Rashford's deft back-heel allowed Jesse Lingard to score with a neat low finish.
The visitors doubled their lead in fine fashion after an
hour, with a sweeping team move teeing up Lingard to head in his second.
MY
OPINION
Man United seem to be a very
difficult team to beat this season and seem to be improving week on week. They
must have a sense that they can win the league cup as a whole because this was
a simple enough win. Jose is managing smartly. As for Swansea the early goal
knocked the stuffing out of them.
MAN CITY 0-0 WOLVES City win 4-1 on pens
POT LUCK SAVES CITY
Roared on by more than 6,000 travelling fans, the visitors
had not only frustrated City for long periods, they created the best chances in
open play too.
But the much-maligned Bravo came to his side's rescue on
three occasions in one-on-one situations, denying Helder Costa in between two
saves from Bright Enobakhare.
MY
OPINION
Man City are better than this
and we know this. This to me is what I call a Liverpool performance and it
makes me think that this season maybe City will not be champions and will find
it difficult to play with the big guns. City have not moved up that level yet.
