25-9-17 LADIES FOOTBALL FINAL
SENIOR WOMENS ALL
IRELAND FINAL
DUBLIN 4-11 0-11 MAYO
AHERNE ALL READY FOR
ALL IRELAND
The winners forward lines were rampant throughout. Captain
Sinead Aherne led by example with nine points (7f) , while Niamh McEvoy and
Carla Rowe scored 1-01 each and Player of the Match Noelle Healey was a
constant thorn in Mayo’s side.
A dogged defence led by Sinead Goldrick and Niamh Collins
limited the impact of Mayo talisman Cora Staunton, and though their opponents
were in contention until the last 10 minutes, three late goals from substitute
Sarah McCaffrey (2) and the tireless Carla Rowe put the result beyond doubt .
Mayo had started the brighter, Staunton, playing in her
seventh final, cancelling out Aherne’s opening free with a fisted point within
three minutes.
MY
OPINION
You can’t help but feel sad for
mayo after losing both the men’s and women’s All Ireland finals, If Dublin have
been good enough to compete with the get Cork team then sometimes it means that
they are just that few l3evels ahead.
LADIES INTERMEDIATE
FOOTBALL FINAL
TIP 1-13 1-10 TYRONE
MAGIC MC CARTHY
Grainne Rafferty's 16th-minute goal gave the Red Hands a 1-1
to 0-3 lead.
However, Tipperary moved into a 0-5 to 1-1 lead before a
Tyrone defensive mix-up was punished by Aisling McCarthy who coolly lobbed into
the empty net.
After trailing 1-7 to 1-3 at the break, Tyrone never got
closer than three in arrears in the second period.
Tyrone had a mix of youth and experience with Gemma Begley,
skipper Neamh Woods, Shannon Quinn and Shannon Lynch survivors from the 2010
triumph as they aimed to secure the victory than would ensure their return to
the senior grade.
MY
OPINION
Tyrone had chances in this match
to make it interesting but in the second half it felt like they let Tipperary
go and the result could have been a lot worse. I feel that they are better than
this and can compete and poor subs was what caused them the game.
