FRENCH SEMIS Montpellier 40-14 Lyon Racing 14-19 Castre PRO 14 FINAL LEINSTER 40-32 SCARLETS CRAFTY CONAN After a try-less first half hour in which Johnny Sexton and Leigh Halfpenny traded kicks, lock Devin Toner forced his way over the line from close range after Leinster carried the ball remorselessly through several phases. This left Leinster leading 14-6 but this cushion was short-lived as Scarlets winger Johnny NcNicholl snaffled a try from the next attack. Leinster led 14-11 as the clock passed the 40 minute mark and it looked like they would have a relatively paltry lead to boast for all their first half dominance. However, on the stroke of half-time, Scarlets indiscipline helped them gain a line-out five metres out. From the resultant line-out maul, McGrath fed the excellent Sexton who popped a pass to James Lowe and the Kiwi winger dived over in the corner to leave the score at 21-11 at the break. Then followed the moment of the game as Jordan La...

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL REAL MADRID 3-1 LICVERPOOL BRILLIANT BALE BUT KALAMATUS KARIUS Liverpool had already suffered the devastating blow of losing top scorer Mohamed Salah midway through the first half - with a shoulder injury sustained in a challenge with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos - when calamity struck for Karius. Six minutes after half-time, the German inexplicably threw the ball against Karim Benzema, who was not even challenging with urgency, and watched in horror as the ball rolled behind him into the net. Liverpool recovered from the shock to equalise through Sadio Mane before Bale stepped off the bench to score his wonder goal. There was to be no comeback from Liverpool this time and Karius's misery was complete when he fumbled Bale's hopeful 30-yard shot behind him to seal Real's win. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44258022 MY OPINION This game was defined by the wonder goal by Bale but if Karius had not made the mistakes...

ULSTER FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERS DERRY 0.16 2.16 DONEGAL MC FADDEN AND MULLAGAN KILL OFF GAME FOR DONEGAL Jamie Brennan and McLoone, with a fine individual effort, had Declan Bonner’s side four to the good by the time Mark Lynch got Derry off the mark with an 11th minute free. But seconds later, Murphy, heavily involved in all his side’s offensive efforts, linked with Ryan McHugh to send marauding midfielder McFadden in for a goal. McBrearty knocked over a couple of points as they restored the two points advantage, but Derry, with Sean Leo McGoldrick probing along the left flank, and Enda Lynn using his pace along the right, got width into their game and exposed weaknesses and uncertainty in the Donegal defence. Emmet Bradley thumped over three points on the spin, including a brilliant free from close to the sideline and a splendid effort from play to get them to within reach. But they couldn’t sustain the momentum, and Donegal reeled off three late on, ...

LEINSTER HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP GALWAY 1.22 2.11 KILKENNY COURAGEOUS  CANNIG They would have been much further adrift but staged a rally before the interval to cut the gap, having been eight points adrift. The sides were deadlocked three times in the opening 20 minutes but then Galway pulled away. Cathal Mannion edged Galway 0-05 to 0-04 in front after 23 minutes and they built on that score with Brian Concannon and two efforts from Joe Canning to lead by double scores seven minutes from the break. Then the always-threatening Conor Whelan was fouled by Paddy Deegan and Canning stepped forward to blast the penalty low into the left corner. Cathal Mannion followed that up with his second point to lead by 1-09 to 0-04 approching the break. But then Galway full-back Daithi Burke fouled Luke Scanlon after the James Stephens corner-forward soloed through and TJ Reid stepped forward to dispatch the penalty to the net. Kilkenny pushed on and with Walter Walsh making ...

GAELIC FOOTBALL MUNSTER FOOTBALL CLAIRE 1.23 0.14 LIMRICK MIGHTY MALONE MAKES MAGIC Facing a defensive wall of green for long periods, Clare had to be patient before finally shaking off their obstinate hosts. Eventually however, their much slicker movement and passing along with some excellent long range shooting ensured that Clare would outscore Limerick by 0-14 to 0-05 in the final 20 minutes to ease into the semi-finals. https://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/2018/0519/964684-clare-raise-the-banner-over-limerick-once-again/ MY OPINION Claire for a long time have been the best of the rest and it still appears if there is going to be a shock in the semis it will be Claire that will get the win. Limerick gave them a hard game which they will need going into the semi-finals.   TIPERAY 0.20 0.9 WATERFORD MIGHTY MC GRATH MAKES MISSION  MARVEL Tipperary led by 0-07 to 0-03 at the break, with Waterford not opening their account until Gavin Crotty found the rang...
